Abstract

In recent years, the World Wide Web (WWW) has become incredibly popular in homes and offices alike. Consumers need to search for relevant information to help solve purchasing problems on various Web sites. Although there is no question that great numbers of WWW users will continue using search engines for information retrieval, consumers still hesitate before making a final decision, often because only rough and limited information about the products is made available. Consequently, consumers need the help of data mining in order to help them make informed decisions. Herein we propose a new approach to integrating a search engine with data mining in an effort to help support customer‐oriented information search action. This approach also illustrates how to reduce the consumer’s information search perplexity.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to offer a bibliometric analysis of the already substantial and growing literature on global virtual teams (GVTs).

Design/methodology/approach

Using a systematic literature review approach, it identifies all articles in the Web of Science from 1999 to 2021 that include the term GVTs (in the title, the abstract or keywords) and finds 175 articles. The VOSviewer software was applied to analyze the bibliometric data.

Findings

The analysis revealed three dialogizing research clusters in the GVTs literature: a pioneering management information systems and organizational cluster, a general management cluster and a growing international management and behavioural studies cluster. Furthermore, it highlights the most cited articles, authors, journals and nations, and the network of strong and weak links regarding co-authorships and co-citations. Additionally, this study shows a change in research patterns regarding topics, journals and disciplinary approaches from 1999 to 2021. Finally, the analysis illustrates the position and centrality in the network of the most relevant actors.

Practical implications

The findings can guide management practitioners, educators and researchers to the most meaningful clusters of publications on GVTs, and help navigate and make sense of the vast body of the available literature. The importance of GVTs has been growing in the past two decades, and Covid-19 has accelerated the trend.

Originality/value

This study provides an updated and comprehensive systematic literature review on GVTs. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, it is also the first systematic literature review and bibliometry on GVTs. It concludes by suggesting future research paths.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to apply the Peridynamic differential operator (PDDO) to incompressible inviscid fluid flow with moving boundaries. Based on the potential flow theory, a Lagrangian formulation is used to cope with non-linear free-surface waves of sloshing water in 2D and 3D rectangular and square tanks.

Design/methodology/approach

In fact, PDDO recasts the local differentiation operator through a nonlocal integration scheme. This makes the method capable of determining the derivatives of a field variable, more precisely than direct differentiation, when jump discontinuities or gradient singularities come into the picture. The issue of gradient singularity can be found in tanks containing vertical/horizontal baffles.

Findings

The application of PDDO helps to obtain the velocity field with a high accuracy at each time step that leads to a suitable geometry updating for the procedure. Domain/boundary nodes are updated by using a second-order finite difference time algorithm. The method is applied to the solution of different examples including tanks with baffles. The accuracy of the method is scrutinized by comparing the numerical results with analytical, numerical and experimental results available in the literature.

Originality/value

Based on the investigations, PDDO can be considered a reliable and suitable approach to cope with sloshing problems in tanks. The paper paves the way to apply the method for a wider range of problems such as compressible fluid flow.

This paper aims to determine Chinese peasant consumers' decision‐making styles.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to determine Chinese peasant consumers' decision‐making styles.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper reflects on the psychological orientation and decision‐making styles of peasants' purchase of durable appliances. This has the dual character of purchase behavior by the study on factor analysis from a view of peasants' consumption psychology. The consumer style inventory (CSI) was administered in January 2009 to 5,827 peasants in 656 villages in 14 provinces which were selected randomly in China. Both an exploratory factor analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis are adopted to validate the CSI inventory. This results in a 25‐item and eight‐factor solution.

Findings

Findings indicate that three consumer segments are formed: confused by over choice peasant consumer; fashion and impulsive peasant consumer; and perfect peasant consumer. The income effect on a farmer's purchasing has a threshold, while income does not reach the limit, income does not have an obvious effect on the decision‐making styles of peasants' purchasing on durable appliances, the category of consumer styles depends on the “individual” factor of peasants' consumption psychology, and their consumption behavior characteristics depend on the grade of psychological orientation and decision‐making styles of the consumer.

Practical implications

The marketing mix of an enterprise should recognize the potential differences of psychology of the peasant consumer. Enterprises should adopt positive marketing strategies in pricing to induce and inspire consumer motivation and behavior, so that enterprises can positively interact with rural consumers and achieve optimal allocation of marketing resources.

Originality/value

This paper decribes the decision‐making styles of Chinese peasant consumers based on their purchasing behavior with regard to consumer and consumption psychology. The effect of annual average income and income source of the family on the consumers' decision‐making styles is not obvious, but the number of people in a family has some effect on consumers' decision‐making styles.
