Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine how residents in Qatar, the host country of the 2022 World Cup, interact, socialize and acculturate in order to create a more harmonic society, a critical factor for the event delivery and preparations.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from Qatari nationals and expatriates residing in the country of Qatar using a survey. A stratified random sampling approach was applied using as sampling framework all households having a mailing address with the country’s electric company. In total, 2,398 Qataris were contacted and 1,020 completed the survey. From the expatriate population, 1,852 were contacted and 1,134 completed the survey.
Findings
The results showed Qatari nationals were favorable toward Arab and Asian expatriates but not as favorable as Arab and Asian expatriates were toward them. Both groups of residents showed high quality of life (QOL) perceptions, with the locals having slightly higher QOL. Finally, Asian expatriates were more open to socializing with the locals and Arab expatriates.
Research limitations/implications
The results of the study shed light into the acculturation process in host societies of mega sport events such as the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Originality/value
This is the first study that examined a mega event’s host country resident’s cultural interactions to identify potential issues that can arise and interfere with the event experience of the 2022 World Cup in a very diverse society.

Abstract
Purpose
The study examines the mediating mechanisms of job engagement (JE) and organizational engagement (OE) in the relationship between organizational career development (OCD) and retention of millennial employees.
Design/methodology/approach
Data from a total of 422 employees working in information technology organizations in India were collected through a structured questionnaire survey and subjected to analysis using structural equation modelling (SEM) with a confidence level of 95 percent. The convenience sampling technique for collecting data and descriptive research design was used in the study.
Findings
Results of SEM indicate that there is a positive relationship between OCD and employee retention (ER), which is mediated by JE and OE partially.
Originality/value
The study contributes by establishing the mediating role played by JE and OE in the relationship between OCD and ER.

Abstract
Purpose
The study aims to examine the relationship between organizational career development (OCD) and employee retention (ER) with job satisfaction (JS) and organizational engagement as the mediating variables and employee empowerment (EE) as moderating variable between the relationship of OCD and JS.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 422 respondents – employees working in information technology (IT) company in India – were collected and subjected to analysis through structural equation modelling (SEM).
Findings
There is a positive relationship between OCD and ER, where JS and organizational engagement acts as mediating variables. The study also shows the existence of moderating impact of EE in the relationship between OCD and JS.
Originality/value
The contribution of the study comes from establishing the role played by JS, organizational engagement and EE in the relationship between OCD and ER.

Abstract
Purpose
Conceptual and empirical research over the past 20 years has moved the social media (SM) literature beyond the embryotic stage to a well-developed academic discipline. As the lead article in the special issue in the Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing on Cutting-Edge Research in Social Media and Interactive Marketing, this review and agenda article has two key goals: (1) to review key SM and interactive marketing research over the past three years and (2) to identify the next wave of high priority challenges and research opportunities.
Design/methodology/approach
Given the “cutting-edge” research focus of the special issue, this review and research agenda paper focused on articles published in 25 key marketing journals between January 2021 and March 2024. Initially, the search request was for articles with “social media, social selling, social commerce” located in the article title, author-selected key words and journal-selected keywords. Later, we conducted searches based on terminology from articles presented in the final review. In total, over 1,000 articles were reviewed across the 25 journals, plus additional ones that were cited in those journals that were not on the initial list.
Findings
Our review uncovered eight key content areas: (1) data sources, methodology and scale development; (2) emergent SM technologies; (3) artificial intelligence; (4) virtual reality; (5) sales and sales management; (6) consumer welfare; (7) influencer marketing; and (8) social commerce. Table I provides a summer of key articles and research findings for each of the content areas.
Originality/value
As a literature review and research agenda article, this paper is one of the most extensive to date on SM marketing, and particularly with regard to emergent research over the past three years. Recommendations for future research are integrated through the paper and summarized in Figure 2.
Social implications
Consumer welfare is one of the eight emergent content areas uncovered in the literature review. Specific focus is on SM privacy, misinformation, mental health and misbehavior.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to present a new methodology of selective harmonics elimination (SHE) technique suitable for single-phase photovoltaic (PV) tied pulse width modulated (PWM) inverter.
Design/methodology/approach
In the proposed SHE, switching angles for inverter control are determined offline through numerical techniques and stored in a microcontroller memory as a function of modulation index (md). The methodology uses the solution that leads to a lower change of switching angles from the previous modulation index (md) for storing in the processor memory for multiple solutions. This leads to a smaller number of sections when a piecewise mixed model is considered for storing the entire switching angle curve for the online inverter control. The proposed idea is simulated and experimentally validated on a laboratory prototype of PV (500 W) grid-tied PWM inverter. The control environment is then realized in NI c-RIO 9082.
Findings
This proposed technique is suitable for limiting voltage total harmonics distortion (THD) in single-phase PV tied grid connected voltage source inverter (VSI). Moreover, it is found that filter (L-C) size requirement is less.
Originality/value
The proposed SHE with piecewise mixed model technique effectively reduces voltage THD with less filter size (L-C) in a single-phase PV-tied system.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this paper is to study pharmacy service impact on patient satisfaction and to determine what factors saliently link with pharmaceutical service performance at Hamad General Hospital.
Design/methodology/approach
A patient satisfaction questionnaire was designed using the literature and consultation with Hamad General Hospital medical experts. The questionnaire contained 22 items that focused on five influencing factors: promptness; attitude; supply; location; medication education; and respondent demographic aspects. A total of 220 respondents completed the questionnaire. An exploratory factor analysis was used to group items and a structural equation model was developed to test causality between five factors along with their influence on patient satisfaction.
Findings
The study establishes statistical evidence that patient satisfaction is positively influenced by service promptness, pharmacist attitude, medication counseling, pharmacy location and waiting area. Several socio‐demographic characteristics have statistically different effect on satisfaction, notably: gender; marital status; health status; age; educational level; and ethnicity. However, medication supply did not influence patient satisfaction.
Practical implications
Pharmaceutical services are recognized as an essential healthcare‐system component. Their impact on customer satisfaction has been investigated in many countries; however, there is no such study in Qatar.
Originality/value
The findings identify pharmaceutical service performance indicators and provide guidelines to improve Qatari pharmaceutical services.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to present a modified interleaved boost converter (MIBC) topology for improving the reliability and efficiency of power electronic systems.
Design/methodology/approach
The MIBC topology was implemented with two parallel converters, operated with a −180 degree phase shift. Using this methodology, ripples are reduced. The state-space model was analysed with a two-switch MIBC for different modes of operation. The simulation was carried out and validated using a hardware prototype.
Findings
The performance of the proposed MIBC shows better output voltage, current and power than the interleaved boost converter (IBC) for the solar PV array. The output power of the proposed converter is 1.353 times higher than that of existing converters, such as boost converter (BC) and IBC. The output power of the four-phase IBC is 30 kW, whereas that of the proposed two-phase MIBC is 40.59 kW. The efficiency of MIBC was better than that of IBC (87.01%). By incorporating interleaved techniques, the total inductor current is reduced by 29.60% compared with the existing converter.
Practical implications
The proposed MIBC can be used in a grid-connected system with an inverter circuit for DC-to-AC conversion, electric vehicle speed control, power factor correction circuit, high-efficiency converters and battery chargers.
Originality/value
The work presented in this paper is a modified version of IBC. This modified MIBC was modelled using the state-space approach. Furthermore, the state-space model of a two-phase MIBC was implemented using a Simulink model, and the same was validated using a hardware setup.

Abstract
Purpose
Because of the importance of having enough sleep in life and health, this study aims to determine the effect of vitamin D supplementation on sleep quality and pregnancy symptoms (primary outcomes) and side effects (secondary outcome).
Design/methodology/approach
In this triple-blind randomized controlled clinical trial, 88 pregnant women with gestational age of 8–10 weeks and serum vitamin D concentration less than 30 ng/ml were allocated into vitamin D (n = 44) and control (n = 44) groups by blocked randomization method. The vitamin D group received a 4,000 IU vitamin D pill, and the control group received a placebo pill daily for 18 weeks. Independent t-, Mann–Whitney U and ANCOVA tests were used to analyze the data.
Findings
The post-intervention mean (SD: standard deviation) of total sleep quality score in the vitamin D and placebo group were 1.94 (2.1) and 4.62 (1.71), respectively. According to the Mann–Whitney U test, this difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p < 0.001). The mean (SD) of pregnancy symptoms in the vitamin D and placebo groups was 23.95 (16.07) and 26.62 (13.84), respectively, and there was no significant difference between the two groups based on ANCOVA test (p = 0.56). Considerable side effects were not observed in any groups.
Originality/value
This study was conducted due to the contradictory results of the effect of vitamin D on sleep quality and the high prevalence of sleep disorders and pregnancy symptoms.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to examine the indirect effects of strategic leadership for learning between sales employees’ perceived learning opportunities and organizational commitment and job performance.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 204 responses from sales employees in a South Korean company were analyzed using path analysis to test the hypothesized model and hypotheses.
Findings
Results of the analysis showed that strategic leadership has a significant indirect effect on the relationship between perceived learning opportunities and job performance and organizational commitment.
Originality/value
The results of this study challenge the belief that providing learning opportunities improves salesperson performance and organizational commitment. The results indicate that the relationship between continuous learning opportunities and performance, as well as between opportunities and organizational commitment, is statistically nonsignificant. However, the authors did find that providing continuous learning opportunities via strategic leadership because learning increases performance and organizational commitment.
