Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to review an existing graphic novel collection in the curriculum materials center of an academic library. The review would result in a clear identity for the collection and guide the creation of revised collection development, management and cataloging processes.

Design/methodology/approach

The physical and bibliographic identities of each individual graphic novel were reviewed and compared with collection development tools.

Findings

The review revealed a mismatch between the physical and bibliographic markers applied to some graphic novels and inconsistencies in the assignment of items based on audience and literature type. At the completion of the project, 43% of the graphic novels were reassigned based on audience, literature type or both.

Originality/value

There is limited research about the collection challenges and needs of graphic novels in juvenile and curriculum materials collections within academic libraries. This research details the process used to evaluate the collection and create a physical and bibliographic identity that fits the needs of the library’s users.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to identify the interrelationships among critical factors for digital servitization (DS) implementation.

Design/methodology/approach

A multi-method research was used. Critical factors for a successful DS implementation were identified using a systematic literature review and expert interviews. The interpretive structural modeling (ISM) method was used to develop a hierarchical model of the identified factors, followed by the fuzzy Matrice d’Impacts Croisés Multiplication Appliqués à un Classement (MICMAC) analysis to assess their dependence and driving powers.

Findings

A total of 23 factors for DS implementation were identified, and the ISM model was developed. Based on MICMAC analysis, the factors were also grouped under four categories (dependent, driving, autonomous and linkage). A conceptual framework is proposed, highlighting that DS implementation relies on three main layers of critical factors: crafting alignment, scaling the change and achieving results.

Originality/value

The ISM and fuzzy MICMAC methods used in this study provided valuable insights into the interrelationship among the identified DS factors through a conceptual framework. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the study is one of the first to identify critical factors influencing DS implementation and develop hierarchical relationships among them.

Abstract

Purpose

Given the magnitude of the literature, a researcher must be selective of research papers and publications in general. In other words, only papers that meet strict standards of academic integrity and adhere to reliable and credible sources should be referenced. The purpose of this paper is to approach this issue from the prism of scientometrics according to the following research questions: Is it necessary to judge the quality of scientific production? How do we evaluate scientific production? What are the tools to be used in evaluation?

Design/methodology/approach

This paper presents a comparative study of scientometric evaluation practices and tools. A systematic literature review is conducted based on articles published in the field of scientometrics between 1951 and 2022. To analyze data, the authors performed three different aspects of analysis: usage analysis based on classification and comparison between the different scientific evaluation practices, type and level analysis based on classifying different scientometric indicators according to their types and application levels and similarity analysis based on studying the correlation between different quantitative metrics to identify similarity between them.

Findings

This comparative study leads to classify different scientific evaluation practices into externalist and internalist approaches. The authors categorized the different quantitative metrics according to their types (impact, production and composite indicators), their levels of application (micro, meso and macro) and their use (internalist and externalist). Moreover, the similarity analysis has revealed a high correlation between several scientometric indicators such as author h-index, author publications, citations and journal citations.

Originality/value

The interest in this study lies deeply in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of research groups and guides their actions. This evaluation contributes to the advancement of scientific research and to the motivation of researchers. Moreover, this paper can be applied as a complete in-depth guide to help new researchers select appropriate measurements to evaluate scientific production. The selection of evaluation measures is made according to their types, usage and levels of application. Furthermore, our analysis shows the similarity between the different indicators which can limit the overuse of similar measures.
