GretagMacbeth believes that the performance of its Color-Eye 2180 benchtop spectrophotometer has been greatly enhanced by the addition of UV control. Designated the Color-Eye 2180UV, it is thought to be the only instrument in its class with this feature. Adjustable to the UV content found in natural D65 daylight, this, it is said, ensures that accurate measurements can be maintained between optically brightened samples.

A sphere-based instrument, the 2180UV is compatible with existing Color-Eye 2180 systems, as well as with the ColorEye XTH hand-held spectrophotometer and the Color-Eye 7000A reference spectrophotometer. This compatibility throughout the line is believed to make the 2180UV ideal for a colour management network system in which colour formation laboratories, QC departments, separate production facilities and suppliers obtain the same values and speak the same "colour language".

Both SCI (specular component included) and SCE (specular component excluded) modes are available for pure colour and human eye response simulation measurements respectively. The colour properties of samples measured are stated to be unaffected by the pulsed xenon source.

Accuracy of all readings is said to be ensured with the 2180UV's built-in reference against which all samples are measured. The instrument automatically adjusts to fluctuations in voltage and changes in temperature to further guarantee consistency and long-term reliability.

The 2180UV is considered to be compact, measuring only 23.8 x 18.1 x 37.5cm, weighs just 6.8kg and has a rugged construction which is designed to withstand prolonged use in a production floor environment.
