Keywords: Grippers, Vacuum

Automation specialist Festo has launched a comprehensive range of modular vacuum suction cup grippers (Plate 7) designed to complement the company's pick and place handling solutions. A total of 15 new cup profiles, along with a wealth of options to customise applications, increases the Festo range to over 2,000 variants.

Vacuum cup size options now extend in diameter from a tiny 2mm to a substantial 200mm, each in a variety of specific cup formats and materials. In addition, rectangular/oval profiles are also available in a selection of sizes.

Plate 7 Festo has launched a comprehensive range of modular vacuum suction cup grippers designed to complement the company's pick and place handling solutions

Formats range from single cups to 3ø convolutions bellow style, while materials include perbunan, anti-static perbunan, polyurethane, silicone and viton. Each material exhibits distinct characteristics to meet specific requirements such as temperature stability, wear resistance, flexibility, etc.

Within the new product range, Festo has also included sets of suction cup profiles specifically for the automotive industry.

Extra product accessories include in-line filter options to prevent dust regress to the vacuum generator, three ball-pivot angle compensators to accommodate complex or variable picking operations, and 12 different suction cup holders – including push fit, barbed fit and threaded variants.

Festo vacuum suction cup grippers feature long service life and inexpensive pricing. Cost benefits to customers, therefore, include lower investment, reduced inventory, and fast and simple replacement when required. To further support end users, and to assist with navigating the extensive new suction cup range, Festo has added comprehensive configuration and selection software tools to its CD-ROM-based product catalogue. The software helps system designers select the optimum size suction cups and vacuum generators for specific applications. These software engines are also available on the Festo Web site as downloadable configuration tools at www.festo.com/vacuum.

Industrial market sectors set to benefit from the new suction cup range include food processing, packaging, special machinery, precision tools; and electronics, electrical, mechanical, chemical and automotive engineering.
