Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between online banking fraud experience and fear of cybercrime and distrust of online banking services, and to understand how perceived usefulness of online banking moderates the relationship.

Design/methodology/approach

The number of respondents involved in this study was 271 people from the Central Java region, Indonesia. Statistical analysis was performed using Jeffreys’s Amazing Statistics Program software to examine the relationships and interactions between the variables studied.

Findings

Experience of online banking fraud is positively related to fear of cybercrime and distrust of online banking services. Perceived usefulness of online banking moderates the relationship between online banking fraud experience and fear of cybercrime and distrust of digital payments. Perceived usefulness is negatively related to the level of distrust of online banking services.

Research limitations/implications

Overall, the implications of this study underscore the importance of dealing with the risks of cybercrime in online banking services. By focusing on security, user awareness and the role of perceived usefulness, banking service providers can create a safer and more trusting environment for users of online banking services. This also contributes to the development of more innovative services and can increase customer satisfaction and trust.

Practical implications

The practical application of these findings is important for financial institutions and online banking service providers. Companies must improve cybersecurity with the latest technology and provide education about online security practices. Transparent communication and better customer service will help overcome customer fears. Compliance with security regulations and technological innovation is also important to protect online banking services. With these steps, customer security and trust can be improved, and the adoption of online banking services will increase widely.

Social implications

The social implications of this research are increasing public awareness about cybersecurity, consumer protection and strengthening trust in online banking services. With joint efforts, a safer and more trusting environment in using online banking services can be realized.

Originality/value

The originality of this research lies in the use of perceived usefulness of online banking as a moderating variable to reduce the negative impact of online banking fraud experience. With a focus on the psychological effects of customers experiencing fraud, this research seeks to rebuild trust and improve the security of online banking services.

Abstract

Purpose

Firms have already begun integrating artificial intelligence (AI) as a replacement for conventional performance management systems owing to its technological superiority. This transition has sparked a growing interest in determining how employees perceive and respond to performance feedback provided by AI as opposed to human supervisors.

Design/methodology/approach

A 2 x 2 between-subject experimental design was employed that was manipulated into four experimental conditions: AI algorithms, AI data, highly experienced human supervisors and low-experience human supervisor conditions. A one-way ANOVA and Welch t-test were used to analyze data.

Findings

Our findings revealed that with a predefined fixed formula employed for performance feedback, employees exhibited higher levels of trust in AI algorithms, had greater performance expectations and showed stronger intentions to seek performance feedback from AI algorithms than highly experienced human supervisors. Conversely, when performance feedback was provided by human supervisors, even those with less experience, in a discretionary manner, employees' perceptions were higher compared to similar feedback provided by AI data. Moreover, additional analysis findings indicated that combined AI-human performance feedback led to higher levels of employees' perceptions compared to performance feedback solely by AI or humans.

Practical implications

The findings of our study advocate the incorporation of AI in performance management systems and the implementation of AI-human combined feedback approaches as a potential strategy to alleviate the negative perception of employees, thereby increasing firms' return on AI investment.

Originality/value

Our study represents one of the initial endeavors exploring the integration of AI in performance management systems and AI-human collaboration in providing performance feedback to employees.

Purpose

As a high-reward strategy to differentiate social platforms, value co-creation is increasingly becoming a tool to enhance customers' social attachment. However, there is still a lack of academic understanding of the value co-creation that enables users to build social attachment with social platforms. To address this challenge, we develop and then examine a theoretical model grounded in value co-creation theory considering the relationship between value co-creation and social attachment, and also explore the mediating effect of user experience and the moderating effect of self-disclosure.

Design/methodology/approach

This study takes representative social platform users as the research object, chooses Questionnaire Star as the platform for questionnaire distribution and collection and collects 531 eligible data through the snowball sampling questionnaire method. And then, MPLUS7.4 is used to analyze the data and thus examine our proposed theoretical model.

Findings

The results of structural equation modeling analysis suggest that two dimensions of value co-creation (i.e. initiated value co-creation and spontaneous value co-creation) affect social attachment not only directly but also indirectly (i.e. the mediating role of user experience) and that self-disclosure moderates the impact of value co-creation affecting social attachment.

Originality/value

This study verifies the impact of different dimensions of value co-creation toward social platforms on social attachment, showing that value co-creation plays an important role in developing users' social attachment and provides practical implications for promoting the sustainable development of social platforms and building users' psychological well-being.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore the effects of the omni-channel experience on customer commitment and word-of-mouth (WOM) intention within the context of fashion retailing in an emerging country, Türkiye.

Design/methodology/approach

In the study, data was collected online from 346 consumers. The hypothesised relationships were tested using SEM via AMOS.

Findings

Three sub-dimensions of the omni-channel experience are validated, namely consistency, connectivity, and personalisation, and while consistency and personalisation positively affected customer commitment, they did not indicate any direct influence on WOM intention. On the other hand, connectivity affected WOM intention but not customer commitment. In conclusion, even though consistency, connectivity, and personalisation constitute the omni-channel experience, they have differing behavioural outcomes. Furthermore, fashion retail customers’ commitment positively influenced WOM intentions.

Research limitations/implications

This study contributes to the literature in four main areas: First, this study validates the omni-channel experience scale. Secondly, it extends social exchange theory in omni-channel retailing research. Thirdly, it develops a micro-perspective on the omni-channel experience. Lastly, it puts forth that the effects of consistency, connectivity, and personalisation on customer commitment and WOM intention differ.

Practical implications

The omni-channel experience is a multi-dimensional concept. Retail managers should invest in consistency, connectivity, and personalisation to amplify customer commitment and WOM intention.

Originality/value

This study explores how customer commitment and WOM intention are enhanced through an omni-channel experience.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze the war museum experience by analyzing the comments and feedback provided by visitors on Google and TripAdvisor. This analysis intends to uncover the various aspects of war museum experiences.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 201 comments, in which visitors explicitly articulated their experiences at the museum, were subjected to analysis. The comments were examined using a netnography analysis. Four dimensions; object experience, cognitive experience, introspective experience and social experience were used to group the analyzed remarks.

Findings

The findings indicate that the majority of the participants' museum experiences at the Canakkale Gallipoli Epic Promotion Center were introspective experiences, that the visitors felt extremely strong emotions as a result of the technological systems used in the museum and that they perceived the museum as being in a combat zone. Additionally, it was noted that the appearance of the artifacts in the museums really impressed the tourists and that the museum had provided them with thorough information about the war.

Research limitations/implications

The limitations of this study are the number of visitors to the museum and the number of reviews written on Google and TripAdvisor about the visit experience. Especially since the majority of the reviews on Google do not include comments and only consist of ratings, the number of comments on the museum experience is limited.

Originality/value

While there exists a range of studies examining the experiences of tourists at historical places, there is a scarcity of research that specifically focuses on analyzing the impacts of these experiences from the visitors' standpoint. Given the absence of any existing study examining the experiences of war museum visitors using the netnographic approach within this particular context, this research is believed to possess originality and is anticipated to address the existing gap in the relevant literature. Furthermore, this work holds significant theoretical and practical ramifications for curators and scholars. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, since this research is the first to comprehensively analyze the experiences of war museum visitors using the netnographic approach and no similar studies have been found in existing literature, the findings of this study are considered original.

Abstract

Purpose

This study investigated the impact of the perceived Augmented Reality (AR) social experience of restaurant menus on two types of prosocial behaviors: brand positivity and brand information sharing.

Design/methodology/approach

This study adopts the expectancy-value model as a framework, drawing on the cognitive load, self-determination, and media richness theories. Using a sample of 879 participants from the United States, the research model was tested using structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).

Findings

The findings indicate that the social experience derived from using AR menus significantly predicts brand positivity and brand information sharing. The perceived usefulness of AR mediates this relationship. Moreover, AR reality congruence acts as a significant mediator between perceived AR social experience and brand positivity but not brand information sharing. The positive relationship between AR social experience, brand positivity, and brand information sharing is sequentially mediated by AR reality congruence and AR usefulness.

Originality/value

This groundbreaking research pioneers a fresh perspective, delving into the impact of AR social experiences on consumers' prosocial behaviors, specifically brand positivity and information sharing. Unravels intricate mechanisms, shedding light on how and under what circumstances AR social experiences foster positive behaviors within the dynamic realm of food services and restaurant settings. This study provides valuable insights for restaurant managers and marketers to leverage AR technology to create engaging and immersive customer-dining experiences, a concept that has not been thoroughly explored in previous studies.

Abstract

Purpose

Gamification in mobile apps has emerged as a compelling strategy to foster firm’s relationships with their customers through mobile applications. This study utilizes a meta-analytic review to demonstrate how gamification shapes consumer responses and how moderator variables play a role in this process.

Design/methodology/approach

The study employed a meta-analytic review to combine and synthesize data from 62 studies, including 71 independent samples and a sample size of 20,510 to test the research model and examine the role of moderators in this model.

Findings

Findings reveal that gamification, through the customer experience components (cognitive, hedonic, pragmatic and social elements), leads to customer engagement, resulting in word-of-mouth and loyalty. However, privacy concerns play a destructive role in this process, deteriorating customer–firm relationships. Moderator analysis indicates that gamification design elements, such as rewards, progression and customization systems, along with product and service benefit, involvement, familiarity and firm type moderate the relationship between gamification and customer response.

Research limitations/implications

The meta-analysis main and moderator analysis results provide several insights for marketing managers that assist them in developing an effective gamification in mobile app strategy.

Originality/value

The findings reveal novel insights, encompassing both the bright and dark sides of the influence of gamification on customer response, while also examining the moderating roles of gamification, product and service and firm characteristics.

Abstract

Purpose

More specifically, the research identifies the determinants of positive and negative memorable experiences in different contexts of food tourism.

Design/methodology/approach

Qualitative data were collected from domestic and international tourists visiting New Zealand. Using an in-person, self-administered, electronic survey, 374 complete surveys were gathered in Christchurch City.

Findings

The findings reveal 25 factors contributing to positive memorable experiences, whereas the lack of seven of them leads to negative memorable experiences. Food quality is the most dominant determinant of both positive and negative memorable experiences.

Originality/value

Despite existing various types of food and drink experiences, the literature largely focused on the consumption part. The negative memorable experience has also been neglected. To expand the knowledge of the determinants of memorable food/drink experiences, this research focuses on all types of such experiences including positive and negative ones to provide a comprehensive understanding of memorable experiences within food tourism.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to focus on tourists with physical disabilities and examine their perceptions of service robots in hotels and their influence on the overall experience, behavioral intentions and hotel attachment.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey was conducted via the Prolific platform to collect data from 409 respondents. The data was analyzed using partial least squares–based SEM.

Findings

The salient PLS-SEM findings show that perceived safety and functional benefits significantly affect a hotel's overall experience and intention to revisit. Perceived privacy did not relate to the hotel's overall experience and intention to revisit. Moreover, the hotel's overall experience significantly affects the intention to revisit, further influencing hotel attachment.

Research limitations/implications

This research only examines the perceptions of tourists with physical disabilities of hotel service robots. Findings are based on a survey, and thus, the results cannot be generalized.

Originality/value

Current research indicates the impact of the intention to revisit and hotel attachment. Moreover, this study investigates the mediating role of overall hotel experience in the association between perceived privacy, perceived safety and functional benefits regarding revisit intention.

Abstract

Purpose

A new type of business offering is currently gaining much attention, a type which in some aspects appears to be distinct from goods and services. These offerings are usually denoted as commercial experiences and are claimed to provide higher customer value than other types of offerings as they, for example, engage customers in an inherently memorable way. The understanding of what constitutes commercial experiences is however still scant. The purpose of this paper is to take a closer look at the commercial experience concept from a customer perspective. The paper aims specifically at elaborating and defining commercial experiences as well as distinguishing them from goods and services.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper is based on literature studies.

Findings

The authors identify memorable as the fundamental distinctive characteristic for commercial experiences. Memorable events are then shown to be strongly emotional events. Finally the two‐factor structure of affect is used to show that the factor “strong engagement” is a critical driver of commercial experiences. As a result of the elaboration the authors also propose a new definition of commercial experiences and distinguish commercial experiences from goods and services in three ways.

Originality/value

The paper increases the currently scant understanding of commercial experiences.
