Abstract

Purpose

This study addresses a gap in the literature by examining the marketing strategies adopted by wineries in the context of wine tourism. This study aims to identify marketing strategic orientations and highlight their significance in the context of wine tourism.

Design/methodology/approach

The research uses a comparative case study approach, focusing on two wine regions, Roussillon (France) and Empordà (Spain). It involves the analysis of 99 active winery websites to identify marketing orientations. Descriptive statistics, cluster analysis and ANOVA tests were used to achieve this.

Findings

The study reveals four distinct wine tourism strategic orientations adopted by wineries in these regions. It emphasizes the importance of external ties, varying levels of competitiveness, website performance and geographical differences as key findings. The results show that wineries with a clear diversification strategy benefit from a higher level of competitiveness.

Originality/value

This research contributes to the academic literature by identifying different marketing strategies within wine tourism, highlighting their importance and providing a comprehensive analysis of key areas, thus adding original insights to the existing body of literature.

Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to examine consumers' intentions to visit wine tourism destinations (WTDs) in Canada post-COVID-19 by combining destination-related constructs with the theory of planned behavior (TPB).

Design/methodology/approach

Convenience sampling was employed in the online survey method to gather data. Using AMOS and SPSS software, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data.

Findings

The outcomes of the SEM show that a powerful model for predicting consumers’ intention to visit WTDs was developed by combining the TPB with additional variables. More precisely, the study identified that consumers' attitudes, perceived behavioral control, wine product involvement and motivation exhibit positive influences on their intention to visit WTDs. Conversely, subjective norms and the destination wine image did not influence the intention.

Research limitations/implications

The findings have important ramifications for various parties involved, including the government, travel agencies, tourism associations and wine producers. This research's emphasis on consumer behavior enables practitioners to adjust to the changing needs of consumers in the post-pandemic environment.

Originality/value

The drawn-out model gives an improvised view of consumers’ behavioral intentions to visit WTDs post-COVID-19 by testing an integrated structural model comprising TPB and destination-related constructs. As far as the authors are aware, this research represents the first-ever effort to predict consumer's intentions to visit WTDs post-COVID-19.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to identify Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for tourism route development and proposes a tailored conceptual model. It addresses a comprehensive range of tourism routes, considering their respective goals and performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors applied a qualitative approach to investigate five tourism routes, interviewing 31 current and former members and examining secondary data from organisational documents. A conceptual model was developed through content analysis of transcripts and secondary data.

Findings

Based on the identified CSFs, the model is organised into six components: Product, Goals, Resources, Governance, Activities and Performance assessment.

Research limitations/implications

The study analyses various tourism routes concerning their products, implementation levels, goals, performance and perceived success.

Practical implications

Most respondents are public authorities from European countries. Besides, consideration should be given to developing quantitative research to validate the derived theory.

Social implications

The model may facilitate participants in enhancing and developing tourism routes, thereby contributing to achieving sustainable development goals related to rural-urban connections and tourism partnerships.

Originality/value

The development of tourism routes is expected to impact socio-economic development in rural/peripheral areas positively.

Propósito

Esta investigación se centra en diversas tipologías de rutas turísticas, buscando identificar Factores Críticos de Éxito (FCE) y proporcionar un modelo conceptual adaptado.

Diseño/metodología/enfoque

Aplicamos un enfoque cualitativo para investigar cinco rutas turísticas. Entrevistamos a 31 miembros y examinamos datos secundarios de documentos organizativos. Se desarrolló un modelo conceptual mediante el análisis de contenido de transcripciones y datos secundarios.

Resultados

Basado en los FCE identificados, el modelo está organizado en seis componentes: Producto, Objetivos, Recursos, Gobernanza, Actividades y Evaluación del desempeño.

Originalidad

El estudio analiza diversas rutas turísticas en relación con sus productos, ubicaciones y nivel de implementación, así como los objetivos, rendimiento y éxitos percibidos de los involucrados.

Limitaciones/implicaciones de la investigación

La mayoría de los encuestados son autoridades públicas de países europeos. Se debe considerar el desarrollo de investigaciones cuantitativas para validar la teoría derivada de este estudio.

Implicaciones prácticas

El modelo puede potencialmente ayudar a los participantes a mejorar y desarrollar rutas turísticas, contribuyendo así a lograr los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible relacionados con las conexiones rural-urbanas y las asociaciones turísticas.

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of wine involvement in moderating the effect of winery service quality on loyalty toward small family wineries.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of wine involvement in moderating the effect of winery service quality on loyalty toward small family wineries.

Design/methodology/approach

This study used a structured questionnaire. The survey was distributed to wine tourists who visited small family wineries located in Crete, Greece and a total of 216 usable questionnaires were collected for the study. To analyze the data, the study used partial least squares structural equation modeling.

Findings

The results reveal that wine involvement moderates the effects of winery service quality on wine tourists’ loyalty. Specifically, staff behavior affects the loyalty toward wine tourists with low involvement more significantly compared to the wine tourists with high wine involvement. On the other hand, the quality of wine tastings affects the loyalty of wine tourists with high wine involvement more significantly in contrast with the wine tourists with low wine involvement.

Practical implications

Findings suggest that winery operators need to take into consideration wine involvement among wine tourists when they develop a winery service strategy. Operators of small family wineries can provide more customized, diverse and quality wine tastings to wine tourists with high wine involvement while prioritizing winery staff’s behavior and hospitality to those wine tourists with low wine involvement.

Originality/value

This study contributes to extant wine tourism literature by adding the effects of wine involvement on wine tourists’ loyalty toward the winery, and particularly focusing on small, family wineries.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aimed to identify both visitors’ and residents’ general wine consumer typology as well as their typology specific to a wine destination, Florida, and investigated the influences of these typologies on consumer motivation to visit a winery in Florida and their motivations’ influences on their satisfaction with the winery visit and loyalty in the way of likelihood to revisit.

Design/methodology/approach

Two studies were conducted to identify the wine consumer typology and its influences, one with residents of a wine destination and one with its visitors. In both studies, the same cross-sectional survey design was conducted. The survey was designed using the survey design tools of Qualtrics.

Findings

Study results showed similar general wine consumer typology for both visitors and residents but slight differences in the destination-specific wine consumer typology. Results also revealed differences in the influences of these typologies on motivation, with different influences on satisfaction and loyalty for the two segments.

Originality/value

Even though consumer typologies have been discussed in tourism destination decision-making and choice, consumer typology in wine destination consumption has been lacking in the literature. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to identify both visitors’ and residents’ general wine consumer typology as well as their typology specific to a wine destination, Florida, and to investigate the influences of these typologies on consumer motivation to visit a winery in Florida and their motivations’ influences on their satisfaction with the winery visit and likelihood to revisit.

Se realizaron dos estudios para identificar la Tipología del Consumidor de Vino y sus influencias, uno con residentes de un destino enoturístico y otro con sus visitantes. En ambos estudios se llevó a cabo el mismo diseño de encuesta transversal. La encuesta se diseñó utilizando las herramientas de diseño de encuestas de Qualtrics.

Los resultados del estudio mostraron una tipología general del consumidor de vino similar tanto para los visitantes, como para los residentes, pero ligeras diferencias en la tipología del consumidor de vino específica del destino. Los resultados también revelaron diferencias en las influencias de estas tipologías sobre la motivación, con distintas influencias sobre la satisfacción y la fidelidad para los dos segmentos.

Aunque se ha hablado de tipologías de consumidores en la toma de decisiones y la elección de destinos turísticos, la tipología de consumidores en el consumo de destinos vinícolas ha estado ausente en la literatura. Éste es el primer estudio que identifica tanto la tipología general del consumidor de vino de los visitantes y residentes como su tipología específica para un destino vinícola como el de Florida, e investiga las influencias de estas tipologías en la motivación del consumidor para visitar una bodega en Florida y las influencias de sus motivaciones en su satisfacción con la visita a la bodega y la probabilidad de volver a visitarla.

Abstract

Purpose

The present research aims to analyze the influence of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) on the Sustainable Performance (SP) of Spanish wineries, examining the intermediary roles of Circular Economy Capability (CEC) and Green Ambidexterity Innovation (GAI) within this primary relationship. In particular, the study seeks to answer the following Research Questions (RQs): (RQ1), does GSCM exert a positive impact on wineries’ SP? (RQ2), does CEC play a mediating role in the interconnection between GSCM and wineries’ SP? And (RQ3), does GAI function as a mediator in the interplay between GSCM and wineries’ SP?

Design/methodology/approach

The research utilizes Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to evaluate the hypothesized theoretical model using primary data collected from 196 Spanish wineries from September 2022 to January 2023.

Findings

The results reveal a positive relationship between GSCM and SP in Spanish wineries, as well as the existence of positive partial mediations of CEC and GAI in this main linkage, which allows an affirmative answer to the three RQs formulated.

Originality/value

Distinguished by its innovative exploration, this research marks a pioneering effort in the uncharted field of scrutinizing CEC and GAI as mediating factors in the GSCM-SP nexus, thereby enriching the existing body of knowledge and opening new avenues for future academic research on sustainability in the wine industry.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the impact of destination accessibility on pro-tourism behaviour directly and indirectly through environmental impacts and/or affective destination image from residents’ point of view. It also investigates the moderated mediation effect of residency length in the indirect relationships between destination accessibility and pro-tourism behaviour through the negative environmental impacts or affective destination image.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative method was applied. More specifically, the survey approach was found to be the most effective method of data collection for this research. In total, 351 questionnaires were collected through an online survey from people who currently live in Alexandria. The questionnaire was translated into Arabic while adhering to back-translation guidelines. SPSS and AMOS software were used to analyse the collected data.

Findings

The results showed that residents’ destination accessibility affects both destination image and destination environment but does not affect the pro-tourism behaviour. It indirectly affects the pro-tourism behaviour through only affective destination image. Residency length plays a moderation role in this indirect relationship.

Practical implications

The current study can help policymakers, governments and tourism institutions to make decisions. Policymakers can use these results to adopt a comprehensive policy that encompasses different interested parties in tourism, in order to ensure that tourism development efforts will succeed. The government can also join hands with tourism institutions to mitigate the negative impacts of tourism in order to balance the negative and positive impacts of tourism.

Originality/value

The study contributes to the existing literature by highlighting the importance of destination accessibility to support tourism behaviours in domestic tourism.

Abstract

Purpose

Explore the role of traditional cafés in Lisbon and botequins in Rio de Janeiro in the history and culture of their respective cities, based on an analysis of the comments published on TripAdvisor.

Design/methodology/approach

Using a mixed methodology, 7,430 evaluations were analyzed, of which 5,473 were for Portuguese cafés and 1,957 for Brazilian botequins. A content analysis and statistical treatment were carried out. A line-by-line analysis was also conducted to code the emotions reported in the customer reviews.

Findings

The analysis categorized the comments into Gastronomy, Nostalgia, History and Heritage, and Quality of Service. Nostalgia garnered the highest percentage of positive comments for both Portuguese cafés and Brazilian botequins. These results emphasize the importance attached to sentimental connections and historical narratives, particularly those associated with notable individuals who frequented these places. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were identified according to the type of establishment, which suggests a consistent pattern between cafés and traditional botequins.

Practical implications

Draws attention to the importance of a collaborative partnership between restaurant owners and tourism authorities. This strategic alliance not only serves to raise the cultural profile of cities, but also generates substantial economic benefits. It also ensures the lasting legacy of these historic establishments, celebrating the past, enriching the present and safeguarding the future.

Originality/value

Studying the cafés of Lisbon and the botequins of Brazil is important not only for understanding the history and culture of these countries but also for analyzing issues related to socialization, identity, artistic expression and urban transformations.

Abstract

Purpose

The implementation of BIM in the construction industry requires the coevolution of the various aspects of the BIM ecosystem. The human dimension is a very important dimension of the ecosystem necessary for BIM implementation. It is imperative to study this aspect of the BIM ecosystem both from the employer perspective and employee availability to provide insights for stakeholders (job seekers, employers, students, researchers, policymakers, higher education institutions, career advisors and curriculum developers) interested in the labour market dynamics.

Design/methodology/approach

To understand the BIM actor roles through the employer lens and the actual BIM actors in the construction industry, this study employed data mining of job adverts from LinkedIn and Mncjobs website. Content analysis was employed to gain insights into the data collected. Also, through a quantitative approach, the existing BIM actor roles were identified.

Findings

The study identified the employers' expectations of BIM actors; however, it is noted that the BIM actor recruitment space is still a loose one as recruiters put out open advertisements to get a large pool of applicants. From the data analysed, it is concluded that the BIM actor role is not an entirely new profession. However, it simply exists as construction industry professionals with BIM tool skills. Also, the professional development route is not well defined yet.

Originality/value

This study presents a realistic angle to BIM actor roles hence enhancing BIM implementation from the human perspective. The findings present an insight into the preferred against the actual.
