Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the recent economic boom in Tennessee and the role of work-based learning WBL opportunities in contributing to this growth. The paper will analyze data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to provide an overview of the changes in the labor force and employment in the state over the past ten years. Additionally, the paper will delve into the various WBL programs offered in Tennessee, such as K-12 Career and Technical Education (CTE), Tennessee Chamber Work-based Learning, and more, that are designed to provide individuals of all ages and stages with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the workforce. The paper will also discuss how the growth in WBL opportunities has led to an increasing need for new hires and how it could lead to the development of new industry in Tennessee. The paper aims to provide a detailed examination of the economic boom in Tennessee, and the impact of WBL opportunities on the development of local workforce and industry.

Design/methodology/approach

The design of this paper is to analyze the recent economic boom in Tennessee and the role of work-based learning WBL opportunities in contributing to this growth. The methodology used in this paper is primarily a review of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to provide an overview of the changes in the labor force and employment in the state over the past ten years. Additionally, the paper will review the various WBL programs offered in Tennessee and their standards, to understand how they are designed to provide individuals of all ages and stages with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the workforce. The approach taken in this paper is an analytical one, where the data is analyzed to understand the trends and patterns in the labor market and the impact of WBL opportunities on the workforce. The paper also includes insights from relevant research studies and experts in the field to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Findings

The findings of this paper indicate that there has been a significant economic boom in Tennessee over the past decade, as evidenced by data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The data shows a consistent increase in the labor force and employment in the state, with a corresponding decrease in the unemployment rate. The paper also found that the growth in work-based learning WBL opportunities in Tennessee has played a significant role in contributing to this economic boom. Abstract

Purpose

This study critically examines the transformative impact of the “North Sea TikTok” phenomenon on the marine tourism sector, emphasizing the role of employee training in fostering resilience and adaptability within marine economics and integrated marine systems. It delves into how viral social media trends influence marine tourism destinations, particularly the North Sea, affecting local economies, marine resource management and tourism strategies. By analyzing this trend, the paper seeks to uncover how marine tourism destinations can effectively respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by digital media-driven tourism.

Design/methodology/approach

Employing a multidisciplinary framework that merges insights from digital marketing, risk perception in tourism and human resource management, this paper provides a comprehensive qualitative analysis of the “North Sea TikTok” trend. Through a meticulous content analysis of viral videos and an examination of user engagement metrics, alongside a thorough review of contemporary literature in marine tourism and sustainability, the study unpacks the far-reaching implications of social media on marine tourism ecosystems.

Findings

The analysis reveals that the “North Sea TikTok” trend has markedly altered public perceptions of the North Sea, catalyzing a shift toward adventure and risk-taking tourism. This pivot promises economic rejuvenation for local tourism sectors and necessitates agile marine management strategies to accommodate the evolving demands. Implementing innovative employee training programs focusing on safety protocols, environmental conservation and digital engagement is central to managing these dynamics. The paper emphasizes integrating sustainable practices to ensure the equitable growth of marine tourism economies and environmental preservation.

Originality/value

This paper pioneers exploring the nexus between social media trends and their operational and strategic impacts on marine tourism management and economics. Synthesizing social media's viral dynamics with marine tourism development introduces groundbreaking insights into adapting marine tourism strategies in the digital age. It emphasizes the critical need for a skilled workforce capable of navigating the complexities of digital trend-driven tourism markets, proposing a novel model for employee training that aligns with the shifting paradigms of marine tourism engagement. This unique contribution advances academic discourse in marine economics and provides practical frameworks for stakeholders aiming to harness social media trends for sustainable tourism development.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to emphasize integrating training for organizational sustainability with the United Nation’s (UN’s) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It shows how SDGs can be included in the training, development programs and incentives to promote sustainable practices. It guides organizations to set long-term sustainability objectives to stay competitive and adapt to changing conditions.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper conducts a review of the literature on the topic of integrating training for organizational sustainability with the SDGs. The research includes investigating the 17 SDGs and their specific areas of improvement, the benefits and challenges of integrating training for organizational sustainability with the SDGs and the best practices of organizations that have successfully integrated training for organizational sustainability with the SDGs.

Findings

The findings of this study were obtained through a systematic review of literature on the topics of human resource development, corporate social responsibility, organizational sustainability and the integration of training to promote sustainable and ethical behavior. A total of 36 articles were selected from a pool of 120 articles identified through a comprehensive search of electronic databases such as Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. The selected articles were analyzed in detail, and information from the UN was also incorporated into the analysis. The review focused on examining the impact of integrating sustainability training with the SDGs on organizational sustainability. The results of this analysis suggest that integrating sustainability training with SDGs has a positive impact on organizations. This impact includes promoting sustainable practices, improving employee satisfaction and productivity, reducing environmental impact and enhancing the organization’s reputation. The study found that regular progress reviews and long-term objectives are essential for organizations to remain competitive and adapt to changes.

Originality/value

This paper offers a comprehensive analysis of the 17 SDGs and how they can be integrated with training for organizational sustainability. It provides practical guidance for organizations on effectively incorporating the SDGs into their training and development programs, performance evaluations and incentives. The paper also includes case studies and best practices of organizations that have successfully integrated training for organizational sustainability with the SDGs, making it an original and valuable resource for organizations looking to promote sustainable practices within their operations.

Purpose

The importance of employee development programs (EDPs) has been evolving as businesses continue to change and employees continue to have different motivations. Understanding what motivates employees to continue working in a company can help managers have a more successful future. The relationship development between employees and managers can be more easily achieved with an established EDP with goals and motivations communicated. Both employees and managers can influence a positive culture. The authors use the social exchange theory (SET) to help explain this process.

Design/methodology/approach

A review of previous research was conducted. Looking through the social exchange lens, the authors developed practical implications of best practices for employee development (ED).

Findings

Findings of this study should guide organizations to develop, improve or maintain effective EDPs.

Originality/value

This paper uses social exchange theory to foster best practices for EDPs.
