Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to discuss and urge further deliberation on possible strategies to help geriatric and special needs patients to receive dental care during the pandemic.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper contains literature review of published research articles related to past epidemics, COVID-19 and older persons.

Findings

Accurate prediction of adverse outcomes, detection of unidentified problems, improved estimation of residual life expectancy and appropriate use of geriatric interventions is required to understand the necessity of the treatment and effect of possible COVID-19 contraction during the treatment.

Research limitations/implications

The authors reviewed the only published literature and collated the lessons learnt from past epidemics, as the natural history of the COVID-19 is not known.

Practical implications

Future dentists must be trained in crisis management to deal with pandemics more effectively. The dental fraternity should be equipped to provide some sort of “psychological counseling and reassurance” prior to dental care to vulnerable individuals with comorbidities and special needs.

Originality/value

There are very few published articles focused on unique dental care plans for geriatric and special needs patients.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to present a concise review on the variant state-of-the-art dynamic task allocation strategies. It presents a thorough discussion about the existing dynamic task allocation strategies mainly with respect to the problem application, constraints, objective functions and uncertainty handling methods.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper briefs the introduction of multi-robot dynamic task allocation problem and discloses the challenges that exist in real-world dynamic task allocation problems. Numerous task allocation strategies are discussed in this paper, and it establishes the characteristics features between them in a qualitative manner. This paper also exhibits the existing research gaps and conducive future research directions in dynamic task allocation for multiple mobile robot systems.

Findings

This paper concerns the objective functions, robustness, task allocation time, completion time, and task reallocation feature for performance analysis of different task allocation strategies. It prescribes suitable real-world applications for variant task allocation strategies and identifies the challenges to be resolved in multi-robot task allocation strategies.

Originality/value

This paper provides a comprehensive review of dynamic task allocation strategies and incites the salient research directions to the researchers in multi-robot dynamic task allocation problems. This paper aims to summarize the latest approaches in the application of exploration problems.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to numerically investigate the natural convection heat transfer of a hybrid nanofluid into a porous cavity exposed to a variable magnetic field.

Design/methodology/approach

The non-linear elliptical governing equations have been solved numerically using control volume based finite element method. The effects of different governing parameters including Rayleigh number (Ra = 103 − 106), Hartman number (Ha = 0 − 50), volume fraction of nanoparticles (φ = 0 − 0.02), curvature of horizontal isolated wall (a = 0.85 − 1.15), porosity coefficient (ε = 0.1 − 0.9) and Darcy number (Da = 10−5 − 10−1) have been studied.

Findings

The results indicate that at low Darcy numbers close to 0, the average Nusselt number Nua enhances as porosity coefficient increases. For a = 1 and a = 1.15 in comparison with a = 0.85, the stretching of the isothermal lines is maintained from the left side to the right side and vice versa, which indicates increased natural convection heat transfer for this configuration of the top and bottom walls. In addition, at higher Rayleigh numbers, by increasing the Hartmann number, a significant decrease is observed in the Nusselt number, which can be attributed to the decreased power of the flow.

Originality/value

The authors believe that all the results, both numerical and asymptotic, are original and have not been published elsewhere.
