Abstract
Planning systems are only as good as their interface with the distribution function. If distribution is having an adverse effect on the overall logistics system, then we have a âsystems gapâ. What is then needed is the use of distribution requirements planning (DRP), a powerful method with which to integrate the logistics systems of organisations.

Abstract
Some of the weaknesses of contemporary computerised financial planning systems and procedures encouraged by batchâprocessing environments are described. The failure of many levels of corporate management actively to participate in financial planning or to rely on budgets for operating decisions or as a tool for performance evaluation is due to planning processes that force reliance on accounting and information systems personnel rather than depend on the efforts of operating management. A revolutionary new approach to computerised financial planning currently under way at Adolph Coors Company, Golden, Colorado, USA, is discussed.

Abstract
Countryside planning has become popular due to the improvement in the economic level of China. A rural construction planning permission system is an important means to guide and standardize village construction. Therefore, this study investigates the current condition of rural planning in Guangdong and the general condition of Guangdong Province. Village planning problems, such as the village theory, lack of characteristics, and lack of coordination, are also presented. The bottleneck of the construction village planning permission system is presented. A âthree-stepâ strategy and mode transformation (i.e., legal, personalized, and independent steps) is established based on the analysis of the Guangdong rural planning problems. Finally, the general requirements for village construction under the permission system are proposed along with the study of the village planning in Guangdong, which is the representative case. Therefore, this study provides a reference for the effective linkage between village planning and the rural construction planning permission system.

Abstract
Purpose
Dynamic planning and scheduling forms a widely adopted smart strategy for solving real-world problems in diverse business systems. This paper uses deductive content analysis to explore secondary data from previous studies in dynamic planning and scheduling to draw conclusions on its current status, forward action and research needs in construction management.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors searched academic databases using planning and scheduling keywords without a periodic setting. This research collected secondary data from the database to draw an objective comparison of categories and conclusions about how the data relates to planning and scheduling to avoid the subjective responses from questionnaires and interviews. Then, applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, we selected one hundred and four articles. Finally, the study used a seven-step deductive content analysis to develop the categorisation matrix and sub-themes for describing the dynamic planning and scheduling categories. The authors used deductive analysis because of the secondary data and categories comparison. Using the event types represented in a quadrant mapping, authors delve into where, when, application and benefits of the classes.
Findings
The content analysis showed that all the accounts and descriptions of dynamic planning and scheduling are identifiable in an extensive research database. The content analysis reveals the need for multi-hybrid (4D BIM-Agent based-discrete event-discrete rate-system dynamics) simulation modelling and optimisation method for proffering solutions to scheduling and planning problems, its current status, tools and obstacles.
Originality/value
This research reveals the deductive content analysis talent in construction research. It also draws direction, focuses and raises a question on dynamic planning and scheduling research concerning the five-integrated model, an opportunity for their integration, models combined attributes and insight into its solution viability in construction.

Abstract
Purpose
Studies conducted on advanced planning and scheduling (APS) systems have found problems in the marginal or negative returns from APS systems when they are implemented in manufacturing planning and control processes. The purpose of this study is to examine what problems exist in the onward and upward phase of the APS system implementation and how the individual, technical and organizational (ITO) dimensions in the implementation phases influence the problems in the onward and upward phase.
Design/methodology/approach
Three different manufacturing companies using a supply chain planning module to support their tactical manufacturing planning processes were chosen and their APS system implementation phases were studied. Interviews with the project members and the end-users, and on-site visits, were conducted. Internal company data and presentations were collected and analyzed according to four implementation phases and the ITO dimensions.
Findings
Three types of problems were identified in the onward and upward phase: process-related problems concerning difficulties to move forward; dependency on a consultancy firm; and too much time spent in the system. System-related problems include the usage of parallel systems and inadequate usage of the appropriate potential of the APS system. Plan-related problems regard an incorrect production plan. Different relationships between the ITO dimensions in the implementation process and the problem type were proposed.
Practical implications
The relationships identified in this paper are of important knowledge for companies who are implementing, or are in the process of implementing, APS systems.
Originality/value
There has been little written about the implementation issues of APS systems. The practical use of APS systems in the tactical planning is also relatively low. It is not known what problems to expect and how the ITO dimensions influence the problems during implementation. The findings this paper discusses fill some of these gaps.

Interactiveâgraphic systems and operations research methodologies are increasingly being combined to produce efficient, versatile and powerful tools that enhance the decisionâmaking process. The possible contribution of such tools to the planning of distribution systems for industrial firms and freight carrier service networks and operations is examined and compared.

Abstract
Previous research has highlighted the need to examine the appropriateness of existing information systems methods in the context of electronic business environments. This paper argues for a reâexamination of the suitability of current planning practices in light of the complexity of developing electronic business systems. In particular, the paper illustrates that planning and developing businessâtoâbusiness electronic trading systems (ETS) is fraught with difficulties associated with the priorities and power of individual actors in participant organisations. The authors discuss triple loop learning (TLL), an approach that deals with diverse requirements and power issues, and argue that it may assist in overcoming some of the problems identified. The study aims to analyse the theoretical usefulness of the concepts of triple loop learning in the context of planning interâorganisational ETS. Using the data gathered from case studies of three interâorganisational networks, the authors argue that approaches associated with TLL can offer insight into managing interâorganisational systems complexities, and can thereby enhance planning methods for ETS.

Abstract
The librarian and researcher have to be able to uncover specific articles in their areas of interest. This Bibliography is designed to help. Volume IV, like Volume III, contains features to help the reader to retrieve relevant literature from MCB University Press' considerable output. Each entry within has been indexed according to author(s) and the Fifth Edition of the SCIMP/SCAMP Thesaurus. The latter thus provides a full subject index to facilitate rapid retrieval. Each article or book is assigned its own unique number and this is used in both the subject and author index. This Volume indexes 29 journals indicating the depth, coverage and expansion of MCB's portfolio.

Abstract
Interactiveâgraphic systems and operations research methodologies are increasingly being combined to produce efficient, versatile and powerful tools that enhance the decisionâmaking process. The possible contribution of such tools to the planning of distribution systems for industrial firms and freight carrier service networks and operations is examined and compared. The similarities and differences between the two systems are derived and an examination is undertaken to determine whether a unique planning system may adequately respond to the requirements of the two problems.

Abstract
This article details how survey evidence of aggregate planning practice can be modelled to develop a functional objective search (FOS) system which incorporates the strategies and multiple objectives of the aggregate planning problem. The system is structured to be interactive in use and capable of providing near optimal, low cost planning decisions which reflect different functional interests. The FOS system is validated using data concerning a paint company taken from the literature. A wider range of aggregate planning variables and issues are also explored during 125 test runs in which the system is used to consider varying functional emphasis, variable worker productivity and profit.
