Abstract
In the finding and using of research results, the enquirer is always well advised to have an overview of the audience for and intention of, a document before becoming immersed in as contents. This for “Making Library Research Results Pay”. We have a varied audience in mind. Firstly, we are concerned to meet the needs of the person beginning research work, secondly, to help those involved in development and application work, and thirdly, to assist those professionally involved in the dissemination of research results.

THIS BUSINESS of writing a regular column is a very idiosyncratic exercise. I mention this so that those colleagues who have suggested to me, via this journal, many interesting items which they are convinced could ‘easily be worked up into something good’, will not be offended that I haven't used any of them.

I suppose that most noticeable of all the changes in our profession since I came into it has been the multiplicity of the methods by which one can become a librarian. A. E. Standley says in a recent article in the L.A.R., in 1970: “The term librarian includes the Library Association chartered librarian, the graduate with a degree in librarianship, the scholar librarian, the information and intelligence officer, the translator, the abstracter, the non‐library‐qualified subject expert”.

(Incidentally Sir Brian Robertson will find comfort in our belief that rail travel is the most satisfying way to attend conference with corridor exchanges and dining car badinage shortening the long haul).

Abstract
This paper describes the automation experience of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs Library. It particularly describes how the library used the small computer resources that it had to be able to start somewhere. Although the hardware resource could not take on a fully‐fledged automation plan, the library succeeded in embarking on a computer literacy programme for the staff; indexing books and serials published by the Institute; producing catalogue cards; and instigating an offline circulation system. The future plans of the library to acquire a bigger system are also highlighted.

Abstract
THE Report of the Committee on Libraries, which was issued by the University Grants Committee in the summer of 1967, had for long been called the Parry Report after its Chairman, Dr. Thomas Parry, formerly Librarian of the National Library of Wales and at the time the Principal of University College of Wales in Aberystwyth. When it was first set up in June 1963 the terms of reference were as follows:
