Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the effect of externally applied magnetic force and heat transfer with a heat source/sink on the Couette flow with viscous dissipation in a horizontal rotating channel. The magnetic force is added to the governing equations. The effects of fluid flow parameters are observed under the applied magnetic force. In this system, the magnetic force is applied perpendicular to the plane of the fluid flow. In recent years, the magnetic field has renewed interest in aerospace technology. The physical and theoretical approach in the multidisciplinary field of magneto fluid dynamics (MFD) is applied in the field of aerospace vehicle design.
Design/methodology/approach
Authors use the perturbation method to solve and find the approximate solutions of differential equations. First, convert the partial differential equation to ordinary differential equation and calculate the approximate solutions in two cases. The first solution got by assuming heat generating in the fluid and the second one got when heat absorbing. After applying the external magnetic force, the effects of various fluid parameters velocity, temperature, skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are found and discussed using tables and graphs.
Findings
It is found that the velocity of the fluid has decreased tendency when the rotation of the fluid and magnetic force on the fluid increases. The temperature of the fluid, Prandtl value and Eckert number increased when the heat source generated heat. When heat absorbs the heat, sink parameter increases and the temperature of the fluid decreases. Also, while heat absorbs, the temperature increases when the Prandtl value and Eckert number increase.
Originality/value
The skin friction coefficient on the surface increases, when the rotation parameter and the magnetic force parameter of the fluid increase. In the case of heat generating, the Nusselt number increased, while the Eckert number and Prandtl numbers increased. Also, the Nusselt number has larger values when the heat source parameter has near the constant temperature, and it has smaller values when the temperature varies. In the case of heat-absorbing, the Nusselt number decreased when the Eckert and Prandtl numbers increased. Also, the Nusselt number varies up and down while the heat absorbing parameter increases.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to use two different numerical approaches to simulate the induction welding process for a hybrid thermoplastic material, and the results have been validated experimentally.
Design/methodology/approach
The first approach used a numerical model that combines electromagnetism, heat transfer and solid mechanics in the same numerical environment using Hexagon Marc software. Simultaneously, a computationally efficient approach combined steady-state electromagnetism results at specific intervals in the Ansys EM suite with heat transfer and solid mechanics in Ansys Workbench.
Findings
The results from both numerical approaches showed a strong correlation with the experimental findings.
Originality/value
The current research offers valuable insights into enhancing induction welding procedures within the aerospace industry, as well as across broader industrial applications. The synergistic combination of numerical simulations and experimental validation served as a robust framework for future research endeavors aimed at enhancing the efficiency, reliability and quality of thermoplastic welding techniques.

Abstract
Purpose
An experimental investigation of hemispherical forebody interaction effects on the drag coefficient of a D-shaped model is carried out for three-dimensional flow in the subcritical range of Reynolds number 1 × 105 ≤ Re ≤ 1.8 × 105. To study the interaction effect, hemispherical shapes of various sizes are attached to the upriver of the D-shaped bluff body model. The diameter of the hemisphere (b1) varied from 0.25 to 0.75 times the diameter of the D-shaped model (b2) and its gap from the D-shaped model (g/b2) ranged from 0.25 to 1.75 b2.
Design/methodology/approach
The experiments were carried out in a low-speed open-circuit closed jet wind tunnel with test section dimensions of 1.2 × 0.9 × 1.8 m (W × H × L) capable of generating maximum velocity up to 45 m/s. The wind tunnel is equipped with a driving unit which has a 175-hp motor with three propellers controlled by a 160-kW inverter drive. Drag force is measured with an internal six-component balance with the help of the Spider 3013 E-pro data acquisition system.
Findings
The wind tunnel results show that the hemispherical forebody has a diameter ratio of 0.75 with a gap ratio of 0.25, resulting in a maximum drag reduction of 67%.
Research limitations/implications
The turbulence intensity of the wind tunnel is about 5.6% at a velocity of 18 m/s. The uncertainty in the velocity and the drag coefficient measurement are about ±1.5 and ±2.83 %, respectively. The maximum error in the geometric model is about ±1.33 %.
ractical implications
The results from the research work are helpful in choosing the optimum spacing of road vehicles, especially truck–trailer and launch vehicle applications.
Social implications
Drag reduction of road vehicle resulting less fuel consumption as well as less pollution to the environment. For instance, tractor trailer experiencing approximately 45% of aerodynamics drag is due to front part of the vehicle. The other contributors are 30% due to trailer base and 25% is due to under body flow. Nearly 65% of energy was spent to overcome the aerodynamic drag, when the vehicle is traveling at the average of 70 kmph (Seifert 2008 and Doyle 2008).
Originality/value
The benefits of placing the forebody in front of the main body will have a strong influence on reducing fuel consumption.

Abstract
Purpose
In recent years, there has been significant interest in adopting XR (extended reality) technologies such as VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality), particularly in retail. However, extending activities through reality-mediation is still mostly believed to offer an inferior experience due to their shortcomings in usability, wearability, graphical fidelity, etc. This study aims to address the research gap by experimentally examining the acceptance of metaverse shopping.
Design/methodology/approach
This study conducts a 2 (VR: with vs. without) × 2 (AR: with vs. without) between-subjects laboratory experiment involving 157 participants in simulated daily shopping environments. This study builds a physical brick-and-mortar store at the campus and stocked it with approximately 600 products with accompanying product information and pricing. The XR devices and a 3D laser scanner were used in constructing the three XR shopping conditions.
Findings
Results indicate that XR can offer an experience comparable to, or even surpassing, traditional shopping in terms of its instrumental and hedonic aspects, regardless of a slightly reduced perception of usability. AR negatively affected perceived ease of use, while VR significantly increased perceived enjoyment. It is surprising that the lower perceived ease of use appeared to be disconnected from the attitude toward metaverse shopping.
Originality/value
This study provides important experimental evidence on the acceptance of XR shopping, and the finding that low perceived ease of use may not always be detrimental adds to the theory of technology adoption as a whole. Additionally, it provides an important reference point for future randomized controlled studies exploring the effects of technology on adoption.

Abstract
This contribution responds to the call of various researchers for a shift in Responsible Management Education (RME) to adopt a more human-centered and less organizational-centered approach. Service learning (SL) is introduced as a possibility to offer didactical opportunities for participants to connect real-world experiences to system thinking in various ways. We suggest an approach called a “Prism of Reflections” to pique participants' hermeneutical, technical, and emancipatory interests so they can delve deeply into local social and environmental issues and be able to connect them to broader global issues as encapsulated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We exemplify our method by demonstrating how students reflect on their experiences working at food banks, and how they relate to concerns of sustainability, poverty, and access to food. Our research suggests that this approach offers a way to situate organizational thinking and instrumental reasoning in a larger framework that considers the aims of hermeneutics, technical and emancipatory discourses. Our findings demonstrate that there are conflicts and dissonances when connecting intersubjective real-world perceptions to emancipatory interests and technical knowledge, particularly when it comes to challenges in the realm of food.
