Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine police shooting accuracy and the factors that influence whether officers hit, or miss, their intended target.
Design/methodology/approach
Descriptive statistics explore both incident-level and hit rate shooting accuracy in single officer/single suspect shooting incidents in the Dallas Police Department between 2003 and 2017. Multiple regression models analyze the predictive utility of officer, suspect and situational factors on the two accuracy outcomes.
Findings
Consistent with prior research, the results demonstrate that officers are often inaccurate in officer-involved shooting (OIS) incidents. Additionally, several factors emerged as significant predictors of shooting accuracy.
Practical implications
The results are discussed in terms of the practical implications for training and accountability.
Originality/value
It has been more than a decade since the last academic study investigated this important topic using actual OIS data. Acknowledging the general dearth of this literature, this study explores what factors contribute to shooting accuracy.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine support needs of African refugee new parents in Canada, and identifies support preferences that may enhance the mental health of refugee parents and children.
Design/methodology/approach
In all, 72 refugee new parents from Zimbabwe (n=36) and Sudan (n=36) participated in individual interviews. All had a child aged four months to five years born in Canada. Refugee new parents completed standardized measures on social support resources and support seeking as a coping strategy. Four group interviews (n=30) with refugee new parents were subsequently conducted. In addition, two group interviews (n=30) were held with service providers and policy influencers.
Findings
Separated from their traditional family and cultural supports, refugee new parents reported isolation and loneliness. They lacked support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum and had limited interactions with people from similar cultural backgrounds. Refugees required support to access services and overcome barriers such as language, complex systems, and limited financial resources. Support preferences included emotional and information support from peers from their cultural community and culturally sensitive service providers.
Research limitations/implications
Psychometric evaluation of the quantitative measures with the two specific populations included in this study had not been conducted, although these measures have been used with ethnically diverse populations by other researchers.
Practical implications
The study findings can inform culturally appropriate health professional practice, program and policy development.
Originality/value
The study bridges gaps in research examining support needs and support intervention preferences of African refugee new parents.

Abstract
Purpose
Despite the significant potential of digital content marketing (DCM) to establish public and professional awareness, especially in uncertain situations, no previous research has investigated how to plan business-to-business DCM to help firms and society get through a crisis. Thus, this study aims to offer an integrative framework for providing valuable information for managing uncertainty, particularly during the pandemic crisis.
Design/methodology/approach
Through the lens of business awareness, this research explores relevant content types that can help firms and society get through the pandemic crisis. For this, the systematic review of 52 articles appearing in publication outlets for more than one decade (2010 to 2021) was conducted.
Findings
Based on the findings from the literature review, this paper identified two main categories of valuable content types for firms and society during the pandemic, namely, business-centered content types to enhance industrial environment awareness and human-centered content types to raise emotional awareness during the pandemic crisis.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this research delivers the first scientific article that focuses on presenting an integrative framework for providing valuable content types helping firms and society to manage uncertainty.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to present recently published resources on library instruction and information literacy. It provides an introductory overview and a selected annotated bibliography of publications organized thematically and detailing, study populations, results and research contexts. The selected bibliography is useful to efficiently keep up with trends in library instruction for academic library practitioners, library science students and those wishing to learn about information literacy in other contexts.
Design/methodology/approach
This article annotates 340 English-language periodical articles, dissertations, theses and reports on library instruction and information literacy published in 2022. The sources were selected from the EBSCO platform for Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA), Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), Elsevier SCOPUS and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. Sources selected were published in 2022 and included the terms “information literacy,” “library instruction,” or “information fluency” in the title, subject terms, or author supplied keywords. The sources were organized in Zotero. Annotations were made summarizing the source, focusing on the findings or implications. Each source was then thematically categorized and organized for academic librarians to be able to skim and use the annotated bibliography efficiently.
Findings
The paper provides a brief description of 340 sources from 144 unique publications, and highlights publications that contain unique or significant scholarly contributions. Further analysis of the sources and authorship are provided.
Originality/value
The information is primarily of use to academic librarians, researchers, and anyone interested as a quick and comprehensive reference to literature on library instruction and information literacy published within 2022.
