Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide a flavour of the content of the LILAC Conference held in Glasgow, UK, in April 2012.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper provides an overview of the themes, content, keynote speakers and selected parallel sessions of the LILAC conference.
Findings
The conference held a series of parallel sessions covering six key themes: information literacy and the digital future; information literacy research; supporting the research community; transitions: from school through to higher education; information literacy and employability; active learning and creative pedagogical approaches.
Originality/value
The conference provided an insight into emerging trends for information literacy.

This conference covered the themes of recognising the need, advocacy, marketing and promotion, practical approaches to information literacy, information literacy and citizenship, new areas for practice and research, and ethical use of information.
Originality/value
A conference report of value to library and information professionals regarding various information literacy themes, with links to two web site launches.

Abstract
This article presents an annotated bibliography of literature recently on library instruction and information literacy in academic, school, public, special, and all types of libraries. Interest in the topic remains strong, with a growing number of pieces also including the importance of assessment. Other themes discussed in the articles include research, collaboration, the use of tutorials, tours, distance learning, active learning, problem‐based learning, and the role of accreditation bodies.
