Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to show the beginnings and development of digitization processes in University of Warsaw Library by examining the digital library of e‐bUW.

Design/methodology/approach

The main method is the comparison to other similar actions within the country of Poland. The subject scope of the paper also includes a description of methods of presenting digitized collections to patrons.

Findings

It turned out that fair visibility of catalogue records of digitized material is possible mainly because the Library of Warsaw University is a member of Digital Libraries Federation (Federacja Bibliotek Cyfrowych). Since 2007 the collection has been visited by over 5 million readers.

Originality/value

The original value of the paper is made by presenting efforts of one country on an international level to a broader audience with special attention to individual solutions.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore uncertainty inherent in emotion recognition technologies and the consequences resulting from that phenomenon.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper is a general overview of the concept; however, it is based on a meta-analysis of multiple experimental and observational studies performed over the past couple of years.

Findings

The main finding of the paper might be summarized as follows: there is uncertainty inherent in emotion recognition technologies, and the phenomenon is not expressed enough, not addressed enough and unknown by the users of the technology.

Practical implications

Practical implications of the study are formulated as postulates for the developers, users and researchers dealing with the technologies of automatic emotion recognition.

Social implications

As technologies that recognize emotions are becoming more and more common, and perhaps more decisions influencing people lives are to come in the next decades, the trustworthiness of the technology is important from a scientific, practical and ethical point of view.

Originality/value

Studying uncertainty of emotion recognition technologies is a novel approach and is not explored from such a broad perspective before.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to describe and explain the relationship between perceived social-organizational climate (PSOC), organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB) of other employees and innovative workplace behaviors (IWB) initiated and performed by employees. The mediating role of person-organization fit (P-O Fit) is tested within the relationship of PSOC, OCB and IWB.

Design/methodology/approach

The study was conducted anonymously on a group of 246 employees from 76 companies operating in Poland. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used in the process of statistical analysis.

Findings

The research confirmed a significant statistical relationship between IWB and all studied variables: PSOC, OCB and P-O Fit. On the basis of the analysis, using SEM, it may be concluded that PSOC and OCB of other employees have an indirect influence on IWB, via P-O Fit.

Research limitations/implications

A cross-sectional design and use of self-reported questionnaire data are limitations of this study.

Originality/value

The combination of variables presented in the research model may explain the significance of the chosen determinants of behaviors which are the key ones from the perspective of the company’s effectiveness and competitiveness on the market. The results of this research extend the knowledge in the area of relationships of innovation in the workplace with aspects of social functioning in the organization.
