Abstract

CASTROL'S industrial know‐how has borne important fruit in the world of robotics. Castrol helped Austin Rover and Unimation, the world's largest industrial robot makers, cure a critical problem on the embryonic Metro line at Longbridge in 1980 and now, the product involved, Castrol's Anvol SW68 hydraulic lubricant is the sole specified flame‐retardant fluid for all Unimation robots. With the need to safeguard both manpower and investment increasing all the time flame‐retardant products can be critical to acceptance by industry.

Abstract

THESE notes are concerned with the lateral vibration of the rotor and the influence that other machine components have on that vibration. When investigating the dynamical behaviour of a turbo‐machine, the following elements are typically of interest:

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper was to conceive a fast method to verify design and performance of elliptical pocket journal bearings.

Design/methodology/approach

The computer-aided verification of pocket journal bearings is performed by means of a suitable finite element analysis method.

Findings

The results of sample analyses indicate that the machining tolerances are very influential on elliptical pocket bearing performances, and they must be included among the input data.

Originality/value

Although elliptical pocket bearings are widely used in turbomachineries, the influence of their design on performance has not been specifically investigated. A lot of works about tribological models are available, but few of them focus on their application to bearing design at the industrial level.

Abstract

President Bill Clinton has had many opponents and enemies, most of whom come from the political right wing. Clinton supporters contend that these opponents, throughout the Clinton presidency, systematically have sought to undermine this president with the goal of bringing down his presidency and running him out of office; and that they have sought non‐electoral means to remove him from office, including Travelgate, the death of Deputy White House Counsel Vincent Foster, the Filegate controversy, and the Monica Lewinsky matter. This bibliography identifies these and other means by presenting citations about these individuals and organizations that have opposed Clinton. The bibliography is divided into five sections: General; “The conspiracy stream of conspiracy commerce”, a White House‐produced “report” presenting its view of a right‐wing conspiracy against the Clinton presidency; Funding; Conservative organizations; and Publishing/media. Many of the annotations note the links among these key players.

Abstract

This empirical study examines the impact of context‐team factors and team‐employee factors on perceived uncertainty in self‐managed service teams. The results of our study show that context‐team factors rather than team‐employee factors are critical to the extent of uncertainty employees perceive when providing customer service. Furthermore, perceived uncertainty has negative impact on self‐managed team outcomes in terms of job satisfaction and intention to leave the team. Besides this, our findings indicate that team commitment to customer service quality can serve as an effective tool to handle the negative consequences of perceived uncertainty in self‐managed service teams. Finally, in addition to the cross‐sectional analysis, a longitudinal exploration has been carried out, the outcomes of which suggest that the structural relationships are changing over time, underlining the need to take dynamic considerations into account in analyzing the effectiveness of self‐managed work teams.
