Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the impact of trust in the metaverse on the Islamic banking sector, particularly in facilitating market success. Additionally, it seeks to explore the relationship between metaverse-driven brand image, product features, service quality and overall performance in the market.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from 187 participants in Jordan, with the SmartPLS software used to test the hypotheses.

Findings

The findings reveal a significant impact of metaverse-enhanced brand image, product features and service quality on Islamic banking market performance. Furthermore, customer trust in the metaverse plays a significant role in shaping the relationship between product features, service quality and Islamic banking market performance.

Originality/value

The study’s practical implications still suggest the need for a more holistic metaverse-driven approach. Investing in service quality initiatives alone may not adequately build and sustain customer trust in the metaverse. Instead, transparent communication on ethical practices in the metaverse is required to reinforce trust and magnify the positive influence of superior service quality in the metaverse.

Abstract

Purpose

Researchers from different disciplines have advocated for the incorporation of Systems Thinking in higher education in various fields such as environmental studies, engineering, economics and management. Nevertheless, educational experiences that seek to integrate the systems approach and citizenship education are not numerous and have not been sufficiently documented. This research paper presents classroom research aimed at understanding how Systems Thinking and citizenship education are articulated within a general education course.

Design/methodology/approach

The research was designed using Grounded Theory within an exploratory-descriptive approach. To collect data, the following techniques were used: participant observation, focus group and documentary analysis. The data analysis was carried out through the constant comparative method in its open, axial, selective and theoretical contrast coding phases.

Findings

The data analysis highlights the potential of Systems Thinking within the context of Citizenship Education as a comprehensive set of cognitive, affective and methodological tools. Moreover, it sheds light on the pedagogical practices, the teaching strategies and the type of socioemotional interactions in the classroom that are key elements in promoting citizenship attitudes, ideas and behaviors.

Originality/value

The research underscores the importance of a systemic vision of education that explicitly incorporates social-emotional learning and experiences of citizen participation beyond the classroom where students can build new knowledge from first-hand interactions with processes of social transformation.

Abstract

Purpose

To know the digital competence of rural teachers to carry out the tutoring process with members of the educational community through digital resources (teacher-student, teacher-families and teacher-teaching team). As specific objectives, gender, teaching specialties, interaction between gender*teaching speciality, and significant predictors were analysed.

Design/methodology/approach

The research was quantitative, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive and inferential design.

Findings

The results showed an explorer-expert teacher, where the generalist teachers had a superior competence compared to the rest of the specialties. Gender and teaching speciality were significant predictors in the communication that the teacher has with all the agents involved, while the interaction of both predictors was only significant between the teacher-teaching team and teacher-families.

Research limitations/implications

Another issue worth considering relates to the development of the classification tree for the use of digital resources in tutorial action. Due to lack of space, the proposal has focused on gender and particular subjects, but it would be interesting to focus on the dimensions of the instrument with regard to tutorial action with the different agents (students, teaching staff and families).

Originality/value

After reviewing the literature, the authors can conclude that very little quantitative research is focused on the level of self-perception of digital competence of teachers in rural schools. Furthermore, the teaching speciality of teachers has up until now hardly been taken into account as a variable that can determine the levels of digital competence. Not many studies have analysed the use of digital resources to communicate with the different members of the educational community.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to address the welding demands within large steel structures by presenting a global spatial motion planning algorithm for a mobile manipulator. This algorithm is based on an independently developed wall-climbing robot, which comprises a four-wheeled climbing mobile platform and a six-degree-of-freedom robotic manipulator, ensuring high mobility and operational flexibility.

Design/methodology/approach

A convex hull feasible domain constraint is developed for motion planning in the mobile manipulator. For extensive spatial movements, connected sequences of convex polyhedra are established between the composite robot’s initial and target states. The composite robot’s path and obstacle avoidance optimization problem are solved by constraining the control points on B-spline curves. A dynamic spatial constraint rapidlye-xploring random trees-connect (RRTC) motion planning algorithm is proposed for the manipulator, which quickly generates reference paths using spherical spatial constraints at the manipulator’s end, eliminating the need for complex nonconvex constraint modeling.

Findings

Experimental results show that the proposed motion planning algorithm achieves optimal paths that meet task constraints, significantly reducing computation times in task conditions and shortening operation times in non-task conditions.

Originality/value

The algorithm proposed in this paper holds certain application value for the realization of automated welding operations within large steel structures using mobile manipulator.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this experimental research was to examine a novel axial heat exchanger featuring swirling air movement over heated tubes. This apparatus is designed with perforated circular baffle plates complemented by rectangular air deflectors operating at different inclination angles. The tubes were arranged in a consistent layout parallel to the longitudinal airflow. The deflector’s heightened air-side turbulence initiates the frenzied motion, escalating the surface heat transfer rate.

Design/methodology/approach

The tubes maintained a constant heat flux condition over the surface. In each baffle plate, eight deflectors with identical inclination angles were devised in a reverse position, forming a rotation of air inside a circular duct that held tubes (carrying hot water) which elevated air-side turbulence, thereby enhancing the rate of heat transference on the surface. The baffle plates were equally situated from each other at changing pitch ratios. The Reynolds quantity was preserved in the scope of 16,000–30,000. The performance of the heat exchanger considering pitch ratios and inclination angles was examined.

Findings

The research indicates that when examined under similar conditions, an exchanger with a deflector baffle plate shows a strong dependence on the pitch ratio and inclination angle with a mean rise of 0.19 times in thermal enhancement factor at an inclination angle of 30° and a pitch ratio of 1.2 contrasted with an exchanger with segmental baffle plates.

Originality/value

The result shows the dependence of pitch ratio, Reynolds number and inclination on the heat transfer and friction factor rate.
