ITRI launches new association management and events company

Article Type: Industry news From: Soldering & Surface Mount Technology, Volume 22, Issue 3

ITRI, the international tin industry association, through its commercial subsidiary ITRI Innovation Ltd, is launching a new association management and events company. The company, which was acquired by ITRI Innovation last year, has been renamed Cognition AM Ltd and is planning to expand its activities, primarily in the electronics, technology, engineering, and metals sectors. Cognition is based at ITRI’s headquarters in Frogmore, Hertfordshire.

ITRI has a 75-year history as a membership association and already manages a number of industry groups and global networks. It is skilled in organising and running international conferences and events. Cognition, for its part, currently manages the Components Obsolescence Group (COG) and is also involved in running a number of international conferences.

COG has 120 member sites located across Europe, North America, and Australia. Membership of COG is drawn from sectors including government, aerospace, defence, nuclear, oil and gas, and railways. Cognition provides a full range of association management services to COG, which includes membership management, marketing, and organising meetings, working groups, and international events.

“The move into the association management and events business is a natural progression for ITRI Innovation. We have a lot of expertise in these areas,” comments David Bishop, ITRI Managing Director. “The tie up with Cognition brings together complementary skills and we now have a strong team committed to providing excellent service and an innovative approach to this type of business.”

The Cognition team is led by Ian Blackman who has spent 30 years in industry in various engineering and procurement roles and has hands on experience of running a major membership association. Ian Blackman commented “I am looking forward to growing Cognition into a significant presence in the association management and events sector. We believe Cognition has all the ingredients to provide not only excellent service but also an approach which makes us a little different from the rest.”
