Assembléon to keep customer show on the road

Keyword: Assembléon

Assembléon, formerly known as Philips Electronic Manufacturing Technology (EMT), announced this month the decision to keep its European customer roadshow running indefinitely, although the company had first planned to end the event in April 2001.

The roadshow – designed to strengthen relationships with key European customers – brings Assembléon's latest pick-and-place machine demonstrations direct to customer sites in a travelling exhibition, rather than expecting customers to visit trade fairs. This unique event was due to run for 12 months only. However, since the start of the schedule in May 2000 an estimated 15,000 people have visited the truck, making it so successful that Assembléon has yielded to customer pressures to keep it going.

Rogert Lindgren of Scandinavian firm Flextronics International is a typical customer who values the roadshow approach. Commenting on the Nordic part of the event, he said: "Traditionally we have found it difficult to take time out of the office to visit machines at exhibitions. Now Assembléon is bringing its machines to our own site so that every single one of our employees can benefit from the instrument demonstrations on the truck. It seems to be a good solution for a company such as our own where time is at a premium."

Since the start of the roadshow the specially adapted truck (Plate 4), fitted with three of Assembléon's bestselling pick-and-place machines, has already visited more than 150 customer sites. It has attended many important trade exhibitions and been through numerous countries, including Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the Nordic region, Ireland and the UK. The truck was to arrive in Israel on 25 February, moving to The Netherlands and Germany at the end of the month.
