GenRad, Inc. announced it has acquired San Diego, California based Nicolet Imaging Systems (NIS) and its sister company Sierra Research and Technology, Inc. (SRT), based in Westford, Massachusetts, from ThermoSpectra Corporation, a subsidiary of Thermo Instrument Systems, Inc., for a combined purchase price of $40 million. This acquisition expands the range of test solutions GenRad provides to electronics manufacturers to include manual and automated X-ray inspection as well as rework and repair. The expanded product portfolio allows GenRad to offer electronics manufacturers the most extensive closed-loop test and repair solutions available today.
Nicolet Imaging Systems is the recognized market leader in X-ray inspection technologies. The acquisition makes GenRad the leading supplier of real-time X-ray inspection systems, which are used to inspect high-reliability products such as assembled circuit boards, electronic components and airbag inflation devices, and to provide quantitative process control information used to identify process drift before faults are introduced.
