GenRad, Inc. has announced that its GR Software business unit has released Shop Floor Line Manager, a module of its flagship manufacturing execution system (MES) Shop Floor Data Manager solution. Shop Floor Line Manager (SFLM) extends the reach of Shop Floor Data Manager's (SFDM) MES functionality to provide integrated machine and equipment process control for the electronics assembly industry. Seamlessly linked, SFLM and SFDM provide visibility of the entire product build cycle from line monitoring up through the MES to its integration point with an organization's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

The integrated GR Software solution provides faster implementation of a comprehensive solution at less cost on the front end, providing greater control over new product introduction in the fast-paced electronics industry, decreasing time-to-market.

"Using Shop Floor Line Manager together with Shop Floor Data Manager gives our customers control over their entire manufacturing process. As a result, they can ramp new products faster, speeding time to market", said Steve Holford, president, GR Software.

The Shop Floor Line Manager module provides automated data collection from in-line printed circuit board assembly process activities, including detailed information regarding paste and soldering functions, component pick-and-place activities, as well as flying probe, in-circuit, and functional testing equipment. Parametric data tracking provides the basis for real time alerts via dynamic Web-enabled reporting that ensures in-process responsiveness across the entire production line. Visibility to activities on the line is universally available to line operators, production supervisors, process and product engineers, and plant managers.

The added process-centric functional depth of line monitoring and control within SFLM adds a critical new dimension to SFDM's traditional product-centric MES focus. With SFLM, SFDM now bridges the entire functional area lying below an organization's global enterprise planning solution, from MES down to process control of equipment on the line in a single solution. The dynamic Web-enabled reporting of alerts ensures rapid responsiveness to events occurring anywhere in the build cycle, resulting in maximum line through-put and improved return on capital investment.
