Bearing housing load cell measures material tension during processing

Keywords Force, Transducers

Thames Side-Maywood has introduced a new range of force transducers for measuring the tension of materials drawn over a rotating roller. The 4991 Series design offers full compensation for extraneous forces and variations in temperature. Applications include the paper, foil and magnetic tape processing industries (see Plate 13).

Plate 13 Thames Side-Maywood has introduced a new range of force transducers for measuring the tension of materials drawn over a rotating roller.

The 4991 has a precision machined integral flexure on which are bonded highly sensitive foil strain gauges. These measure the tension in the material under process in both directions of movement. Manufactured entirely from hardened stainless steel, the bearing housing cell is sealed to IP65. A ball journal bearing with twin seals is an integral part of the unit.

Overload and transit stops are provided to prevent accidental damage. Ideal for specification on new equipment or simply installed on retrofit applications, the load cell is accurate to within 0.1 per cent of full scale output.
