New from precision switching specialists Balluff-Multiswitch is the latest generation of BTL rod-style linear transducers for accurate, non-contact measurement within hydraulic cylinders.

The new BTL 5 "Micro-Pulse" linear transducers are designed for installation inside cylinders to provide position feedback on lengths from 50mm up to 3,850mm. Analogue, digital and fieldbus-compatible formats are available, all with resolution up to five microns (see Plate 2).

A unique removable setting tool gives authorised personnel complete control over range adjustment: this simple clip-on device enables zero and end positions to be pre-fixed and changed with ease, anywhere along the normal stroke length. In addition, an interchangeable electronics module allows servicing or specification changes to be made to the BTL 5 without the need to strip down the entire cylinder, minimising machine downtime and maintenance costs.

The new BTL 5 "Micro-Pulse" range is designed to be resistant to the effects of both shock and vibration, and will operate in temperatures ranging from ­40°C to +85°C, with no adverse effect on accuracy.
