EURAM Conference

Oslo, Norway, May 17-19, 2006

Professor Johan Olaisen, Conference chair

Professor Ken Friedman, Conference co-chair

Management scholars and scientists face a significant challenge today. Management research has a role to play in empowering and revitalizing Europe. We also face unanswered questions.

Despite advances in managerial research, we continue to experience a gap between management studies and management at work. What can we do to bridge this gap? Should we reframe and empower management theory and management science? If so, how? What is the relation of management studies to other research fields? How can we work with other fields for mutual benefit and public service? What should your role be in conducting research for European and national policy? How can we position our work to make it accessible to policymakers?

Profound changes in industry, politics, and economic life put these topics on the agenda for EURAM 2006.

EURAM 2006 will address four broad themes. First, we must rebuild Europe’s competitive standing at a time when North America and the Asia-Pacific region use technology-based innovation to develop increasingly competitive products and services. Second, we require new models, concepts, and methods that mobilize, reframe, and revitalize resources in firms and in nations. Third, we must find ways to create common research networks in Europe’s international context. Fourth, we must create sustainable development to meet the challenge of productivity in China, India, and the Pacific Rim as we welcome a new era in world trade.
