US protective coatings demand to reach 13.4 billion USD in 2009
Demand for protective coatings in the US will grow from 4.6 per cent annually to 13.4 billion USD in 2009, driven by an acceleration in durable goods production and a rebound in non- residential construction spending. In general, higher value coatings that provide multiple functions, exhibit favourable environmental profiles, or are used in niche applications will experience the most rapid gains. Development efforts will provide opportunities for most products to some degree, with fire resistant coatings, anti-wear and conformal coatings posting the fastest growth. Corrosion control coatings, the dominant product within the protective coatings market, will achieve favourable gains due to improving outlooks in manufacturing and construction markets. These and other trends are presented from The Freedonia Group (www.freedoniagroup.com), a US-based market research firm.
