Degussa's Coatings & Colorants Business Unit consolidates two sites
Degussa AG's Coatings & Colorants Business Unit is consolidating the Herne and Witten sites in Germany. The new unit will be called the Herne/Witten site.
The new manager of the Herne/Witten site will be Dr Alfred Schmidt-Steffen. In planning the consolidation, Degussa has given due consideration to economic factors. Synergies will be exploited and duplicate functions eliminated. At the Herne site, the focus of activity in the Crosslinkers Business Line is isophorone chemistry for the coatings industry. Herne also produces, for the Performance Resins Business Line, hard paraffins and hard waxes for use in printing inks and coatings, and also in plastics processing, paper manufacturing, and the textile and construction industries. At the Witten site, coating polyesters are produced by the Polyesters Business Line. These are used mainly in hard, but also in flexible, coil and can coatings. Witten also produces copolyesters, which are used as raw materials in the adhesives industry for moisture-hardening systems.
