Keywords: Foams, Density, Materials

Zotefoams' foam technologists have developed two new ranges of heavier density cross-linked block foams, which are to be marketed under the Neolene brand. The foams are made using a new and unique, free expansion manufacturing process that produces an extremely smooth, regular and fine cell structure and consistent density throughout the block.

The Neolene LH range is based on polyethylene whereas the Neolene EH range is manufactured from ethylene vinyl-acetate copolymer (EVA). Neolene LH is initially available in two densities, 100 kg/m3 black and 170 kg/m3 white, while Neolene EH is offered in densities of 140 and 170 kg/m3 both in white. Further densities are currently under development and will be released in due course.

A major feature of the new foams is claimed to be their mouldability. Tests have shown them to be particularly suited to compression thermoforming and vacuum forming where deeper draw ratios can be achieved. Compared with other foams in their class, Neolene foams are claimed to have greater strength and superior recovery characteristics.

Applications for these grades of foam are known to be for three-dimensional gaskets and void fillers in the automotive industry as well as a whole variety of general industrial and leisure uses.
