Industry Co. Ltd, a major Japanese producer of specialty polyamide resins and epoxy curing agents. The acquired business is the first Asian operation for Air Products’ Performance Products unit, the company said. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Sanwa, a private held company, is a regional supplier of amine-based resins with product lines and technologies that complement Air Products’ existing products, the company said. Applications include high-performance coatings for steel and concrete and hot-melt adhesives. The acquisition will provide “greater access to the important Japanese and Asian markets”, said John E. McGlade, Air Products Vice President and General Manager, performance materials.

Air Products said that the acquisition reflects efforts to expand its presence in the growing Asian market. The company’s performance products business, part of the Performance Materials Division, is a supplier of polyurethane intermediates, industrial and specialty amines, polyurethane catalysts and surfactants, specialty additives for water-borne inks and coatings, and VAE emulsion polymers.
