Free-flowing nitrocellulose in cartons

Keywords: Packaging, Nitrocellulose

Wolff Cellulosics' new production facility fully automatic packing line, for free-flowing nitrocellulose packed in cartons recently came on stream.

The cartons are considered a big step forward because they are very easy to handle and store, can be flattened and disposed of easily, are popular with operators and reportedly meet all health and safety requirements.

Project manager Matthias Timm was pleased to report "all tests passed with flying colours'' after he and his team had packed 30 tonnes of plastic granules over and over again. The computer- controlled packing line is now able to pack cartons holding 20 kilograms of free-flowing nitrocellulose. Accommodated in a hall covering 700 square metres, the equipment is manifestly high tech. Following the weight checking procedure a robot stacks the ready-packed cartons on europallets which an automatically loaded shuttle then conveys to the warehouse.

Matthias added, ''Wolff Cellulosics are now offering free-flowing Walsroder Nitrocellulose in easy-to-handle 20 kilo cartons.''

The packaging is stated to comply with a European Directive on health and safety requirements for manual handling. These cartons can reportedly be manually handled without any artificial aids. Free-flowing nitrocellulose is particularly easy to use and dissolves rapidly.

The packing line is part of an 11.3 million euro investment project carried out by Probis, the service provider at the Industrial Park Walsrode.
