Particle characterization systemsKeywords: Malvern Instruments, Sizing, Particles

Malvern Instruments also exhibited at Eurochem 2001; among its exhibits were laboratory and in-process particle characterization systems including the Mastersizer 2000 with new Autosampler and Scirocco dry powder sample dispersion unit. Zetasizer systems for dispersion stability applications and the Ultrasizer acoustic spectroscopy system for concentrated (undiluted) suspensions and emulsions will be shown. There are new developments for the Insitec in-process particle size analyser.

The Mastersizer 2000's new Autosampler is said to enable automatic, unattended processing of wet or dry samples, while new "Micro" and "Macro" sample trays for the Scirocco facilitate measurements in milligram quantities of dry samples – ideal for pharmaceuticals and other precious materials.

Developments for the Insitec system reportedly ensure compatibility for use in CIP or SIP sterilizable systems. The new Insitec/CIP is designed to meet the stringent industry requirements for ease of cleaning, while retaining the robustness and high performance for which it is known. A new automation package, Malvern Link, allows full integration into Distributed Control Systems.
