Ground calcium carbonate facilities expandedKeywords: Minerals Technologies, Specialty Minerals

Minerals Technologies Inc. recently announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Specialty Minerals Inc. (SMI), is investing more than $10 million to expand two of its Processed Minerals facilities.

Paul R. Saueracker, president, Specialty Minerals, said:

We are expanding our operations both at Luceme Valley, California, and at Canaan, Connecticut, in order to meet the continued growing demand for ground calcium carbonate.

These expansions will specifically increase Specialty Minerals' capacity to produce ground calcium carbonate, which is used by the building products market. The market segment's SMI supplies are broad in scope and include: glass, roofing, floor tile, joint compound, stucco, paint and plastics.
