Keywords Colour, Coatings

Another useful gathering of technologists organised by the Paint Research Association (PRA) was the seminar held in Leeds, UK, at the end of May on "The colour delivery challenge". It covered the chain of activities and skills related to achieving the right colour in paint coatings and ink industries, which included formulation, colour matching, testing and characterisation, manufacture and scale-up.

Typical papers given by British, Continental and American specialists included: A model for efficient paint coloration in the works and shop; Correlation between the visual assessment and the spectrocolorimetric measurement; Rationalisation of SPIN-spex colour measurement; Measurement system for the study of the optical properties of coatings during drying; Surfactant and dispersant behaviour at pigment surfaces; Colour acceptance in high solids alkyds; Preparation and characterisation of novel universal pigment concentrates; and One-line colour monitoring.
