Industrial Copolymers Limited (ICL), one of the UK's leading manufacturers of specialist, low hazard resins and polymers for the coatings, adhesives and sealants industries, has completed a major refurbishment and expansion of its R&D facilities at the company's Preston-based head office (Plate 7).

Featuring the latest testing equipment, the modernised facilities will enable ICL to make even greater advances in waterborne and high solids technology. A dedicated technical services laboratory has also been formed to enable the company to work in close partnership with customers on joint development projects.

The technical services laboratory is headed up by Russell Evans (Plate 8), who has recently been appointed by ICL as a technical service chemist. Russell formerly worked for Mydrin and Allied Colloids' Coatings and Specialities division. A chemistry graduate of Bangor University, he has also previously undertaken 18 months' research studying the spectral microscopy of polymers. His role at ICL involves offering customers assistance with product selection, formulation, application and field support.
