New NFU/NFUS milk selling contract welcomed by Milk Development Council (MDC)

Article Type: Food facts From: Nutrition

The new milk contract template produced by the NFU and NFUS and launched on Friday 16 November has been welcomed by the MDC as "great news for the dairy industry and a major step forward".

The MDC's head of market information Huw Thomas says that even if farmers and processors decide not to use the whole template, they can still adopt many of the contract's essential principles to make their relationships more equitable. "Everyone involved in the dairy industry should review their contracts and adopt as much of the template as possible", says Mr Thomas. "The potential to align notice and price-fixing periods identified in the contract is particularly positive, as this will allow the market to work more efficiently".
