Mental health
A new publicity campaign to reduce discrimination against people with mental health problems was launched in spring this year. The theme is "MIND OUT for mental health". One in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem of some kind during their lives and 70 per cent of people with a problem of this sort have experienced some form of discrimination, while more than half have been abused or harassed in public. MIND OUT for mental health aims to target young people who are the future opinion formers. The Department of Health wants to create a climate of public disapproval against those with mental health problems in similar ways to the changes in public opinion over such issues as racism and sexism.
