New Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition
New Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition
In October 1999 the Government announced the setting-up of a new committee to give independent and expert advice on all matters relating to nutrition and health. Its role will be to support all four health departments and the FSA. The new committee, the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) will succeed the current Committee on Medical Aspects of Food and Nutrition Policy (COMA). A review of COMA was set up in the light of the Government's intention to set up the FSA. SACN will advise Government via the Chief Medical Officers and the FSA. COMA and its panel will continue to advise the Government until the new committee is in place.
