New rules for bottled water
The Government has recently proposed new labelling rules for bottled drinking water. Under the new regulations all minerals in "natural mineral water" must be labelled and all bottled drinking water sold in the UK must conform to Europe-wide standards on limits for toxic substances such as lead, other chemicals and microbiological safety. In 1997 the estimated UK market value of the bottled water market was £320 million, £48 million of which was represented by imported waters.
