Rutronik presents new power relays G9EC and G9EB from Omron

Article Type: New products From: Microelectronics International, Volume 27, Issue 1

Omron has extended its family of energy-efficient DC power relays. The new G9EC can carry and switch loads up to 400 V, 200 A and the new G9EB is the smallest and lightest relay in its class. Both devices are available at distributor Rutronik now.

The G9EC's switching section and driving section are hermetically sealed and gas injected, providing the capacity to interrupt a maximum of 1,000 A at 400 V DC. The sealed construction means that no space is required to accommodate arcing. It also saves space and helps to ensure safe applications. Dimensions are a compact 98×44×86.7 mm (length×width×height). Mounting direction is unrestricted, thanks to the space reduction and optimised physical design. A terminal cover is available for industrial applications. The high-capacity G9EC is available in screw-terminal and lead-wire coil terminal versions, and carries UL/CSA approval to UL 508 standards.

New G9EB relays are the industry's smallest and lightest models in the 400 V DC, 25 A class. Only, 25×60×58 mm in size and at little weight of around 135 g, they are approximately half the size and a third of the weight of competing devices. By using resin with a metal case, the G9EB achieves a special gas-filled, fully sealed ceramic construction without the need for special processing and materials.

Patented design of the contact switching component, together with the use of a permanent magnet to stifle the arc, eliminates the need for polarity in the main circuit. These simplify wiring and installation and reduce the risk of incorrect wiring-up. They benefit from extended temperature operations: the G9EC from −40 to +50°C and the G9EB up to +70°C.
