DELTA is establishing a UK subsidiary in Wales where it will open a silicon chip design house. The investment is regarded as being highly significant. It is the first investment that Danish company has made outside of Scandinavia and it will be the first commercial custom silicon chip design house in Wales.
DELTA Microelectronics Ltd will be operating in one of the highest growth industries in the world, with the UK market for electronics and microelectronics components expected to exceed £5billion in 2003. The UK dominates 40 per cent of the European market in microelectronics design.
Based in Tredomen Business and Technology Centre at Ystrad Mynach, it will provide microelectronic technology services to industry, including the design of custom and product specific silicon microchips. Through its parent company it will provide a total service including test solutions, silicon wafer probing, failure analysis, component production testing and other related technology services.
The decision to serve the UK and Irish market from Wales is seen as a considerable coup, raising Wales’ profile internationally as a location for hi-tech knowledge based industries.
