MicroJoin introduces the VTA 63 constant force weld head for low force high precision applications

Keywords MicroJoin, Welding

MicroJoin, Inc. (formerly Hughes and Palomar Technologies) introduces its new Model VTA 63 low inertia, constant force weld head designed for low force, high precision applications (Plate 5). The weld head provides absolute force control for parallel and series micro-welding applications. A constant force air cylinder minimizes force variations during the entire head actuation range. Applications include microwave sub-assembly, solar cell, gold, copper or Kovar on ceramic substrate, circuit card repair and medical devices.

MicroJoin's Model VTA 63 weld head offers true vertical electrode motion, visibility of the entire work area and ease of use. Maximum process stability is achieved with compliant electrode holders that provide independent compliance for each electrode. A user-adjustable trim valve neutralizes forces produced by head mass and increases the control required for light force applications. Head actuation can be controlled by a flexline foot pedal or an air drive and foot switch assembly. Configurations are available for PLC control and automation environments.

The weld head has an electrode force range of 0.50-15lbs (2.2-66N). It is designed for direct connection to closed-loop type power supplies that support voltage sensing and trigger signal and can be adapted for all other power supply models. The unit includes a 10 inch x 16 inch (25.4cm x 40.6cm) black anodized aluminum base with work table. Dimensions are 15.5 inches (394mm) high x 12.5 inches (343mm) deep x 7.5 inches (191mm) wide.
