In appreciation of Professor Wang Xing Ming

In 2012 we learned about the sad loss of Professor Wang Xing Ming, formerly of Renmin (People’s) University of China in Beijing. Professor Wang was a member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management from 1991 until 2007. She was also a JMTM author and Guest Editor of the special issue on “Computer integrated manufacturing systems in China” (Vol. 10, No. 2, 1999).

Professor Wang studied Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University and spent some time in industry before entering academia. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Academy of Economics in Bucharest, Romania, and undertook research visits to the UK on several occasions with support from the British Council and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Council (EPSRC). Her final post before retirement was Professor and Head of the Management System Engineering Group at Renmin University of China.

I knew Professor Wang for more than 23 years and she became a family friend as well as a research collaborator and active member of the JMTM editorial team. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, not only in China but also in many other countries.
