Academy of Management Online http://www.aom.pace.edu/

The homepage for the American Academy of Management, this is a useful site for all. Follow the links at the top of the page to get a comprehensive listing of all list servers in the management field, or keep up to date with the plethora of conferences in this field by following the links to "meetings". The section on the Academy of Management Annual Conference has lots of useful information to enable you to prepare for Toronto in 2000. New developments also include "Director's Corner", an announcement from Alan B. Eisner, with the latest information from the Academy. Unfortunately the journal archives are only available to AOM members, but there is still plenty to interest even non-members.

Strategy and businesshttp://www.strategy-business.com

This extension to the Strategy and Business Magazine is sponsored by Booz Allen & Hamilton and is a generally informative site devoted to "helping you find the best ideas in business". It has an "Ideas Exchange" where it is possible to share your thoughts on a variety of topics, from total quality management to e-commerce. There is also a selection of book reviews, along with the full text of several short, but interesting articles on various themes, updated every quarter. Attractive to view and easy to navigate, this site has plenty to offer the forward thinking manager with time on their hands.

360-degree feedback explainedhttp://www.advpertech.co.uk/what_is_360.htm

This potted guide to 360-degree feedback is a useful summary of the ideas behind and reasons for implementing this often talked about management tool. It explains what it is, what the benefits are to employees and the organisation, the potential pitfalls and the future of the technique. It is part of a larger site giving details of a "Personal Development Planner" which gives some interesting general ideas about how to implement this sort of system, even giving you a demonstration of how it actually works.

Management development resources http://westrek.hypermart.net/management/resources.htm

This is a site crammed full of ideas for developing organisations through employee motivation and team building. There are dozens of short articles on topics from Argyris' "Immaturity-Maturity Theory" to human resource management strategy, team building and self assessment, all packaged in an easily digestible format. These are all freely available, although there is also a section of e-publications that levy a small charge. However, the information given in the free sections is probably useful enough in itself, especially to the busy manager.
