The purpose of CLAWAR Association:

The purpose of the Association is to support the widespread development of robotic systems and associated technologies.
- •
The Association has been established as a spin-off non-profit making organisation of the Climbing and Walking Robots (CLAWAR) Thematic Network (funded by the EC under European Framework programme over April 1997 to 31 October 2005), and thus shall advance and extend the aims of the CLAWAR Network into the future.
- •
The Association shall create and sustain an international scientific society that is responsive to the needs of scientists, engineers and educationalists in all countries whose primary interests are in the field of robotics and associated technologies.
- •
The Association shall cooperate with scientific societies in all countries with the aim of increasing information exchange in robotics, fostering the well-being of scientists and engineers interested in robotics, and reducing any unnecessary duplication of effort.
- •
The Association shall provide mechanisms and channels of communication to increase the flow of information on robotics to Members through sponsoring, co- sponsoring or supporting seminars, workshops, symposia, or conferences, through publishing or supporting journals or other publications and encouraging other activities for the general good of scientists and engineers in all countries.
- •
The CLAWAR Association will be a non-profit Membership based charitable organization and it shall not engage in any activity which would be inconsistent with the status of an educational and charitable organization.
The CLAWAR Annual Conferences
CLAWAR-2007
The CLAWAR 2007 Conference was held in Singapore during 16-18 July 2007. It was a highly successful and well-organised conference. The technical programme of the conference included 85 articles describing the latest research findings and developments in the area of mobile robotics. The conference was attended by over 100 delegates worldwide. A full report on the conference will be published in issue 17 of the CLAWAR Newsletter and via the CLAWAR Association web site at: www.clawar.org
CLAWAR-2008
The CLAWAR 2008 Conference will be held in Coimbra, Portugal during 5-8 September 2008. A call for papers will be issued via email and the CLAWAR Newsletter. Further details can be found at: www.clawar.org/clawer2008
Book series in mobile service robotics

CLAWAR Association and Woodhead Publishing Company have negotiated the establishment of a book series on Mobile Service Robotics. The series aims to publish a range of books fulfilling theory, design, practice and development needs, for education, training and research, in mobile service robotics.

Prospective authors wishing to write/ edit books for inclusion in this series are invited to send their proposals in the first instance to either Professor Virk or Dr Tokhi for assessment. The series editors will also be happy to discuss any book ideas of potential authors and respond to queries in this respect (Figure 1).
