Keywords: Simulation, Robots, Sony

Japan's Sony Corp. will jointly develop with the US start-up firm of Boston Dynamics Inc. software that simulates the movement of human beings to help continue humanoid robot development. The software shows three-dimensional graphics of a moving robot on the computer screen in order to assist in designing actual robots. Sony will use this programme so as to give flexibility and agility to the SDR-3X robot it is currently developing.

Its developers will be able to test and perfect the movements of the robot on screen, preventing the actual robot from breaking down when engaged in experiments. Boston Dynamics Inc., itself a spin-off from another US firm, the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, is known to excel in the simulation of human movements.
