Motoman, Inc. has announced that its parent company, Yaskawa Electric Corporation (YEC) of Japan, purchased the industrial robotic paint division of Tokico Ltd, Kawasaki City, Japan, on September 6, 1999. Tokico was a robotic coating solution leader in Japan with a market share in excess of 20 per cent. This acquisition will enable Yaskawa and Motoman to offer a new line of painting robots.
"Motoman and Yaskawa have always had an industrial painting product line for automotive/truck painting applications. Tokico's acquisition adds six new industrial application (i.e. automotive parts, agricultural products, and furniture) painting robots which will greatly increase our ability to meet the robotic coating needs of our existing and future customers", stated Craig Jennings, Motoman President.
Motoman will be responsible for direct sales, training, and spare parts, and complete support of the current installed base of Tokico robots in North and South America.
