To aid designers, Glacier Industrial Bearings has published a new brochure describing its 28 most popular plain bearing materials and systems. It provides information on the mechanical properties, usage and availability with typical applications for each material.

Although Glacier is probably best known for its DU high-duty dry bearing material, it offers a large range of plain bearing materials and systems, many available from stock (see Plate 2). While most of the materials are supported by technical handbooks, this publication offers a precis of this data in a comparative form.

In addition to the composite polymer lined, metal backed thin wall bearings such as DU, DX, Hi-eX and DP, the brochure also covers metallic bearing materials such as Deva family, the materials for hostile environments, and the numerous solid polymer materials. It also includes self-aligning bearing assemblies such as the Uni and Exalign which are available with most standard Glacier bearing materials pre-installed. This new designer's aid is available free of charge from Glacier Industrial Bearings, Riccarton, Kilmarnock KA1 3NA.
