The Japan Special Libraries Association (Senmon Toshokan Kyogikai) was created in 1952 as a nation-wide network linking Japanese special libraries together. Originally it had a membership of 65 which has grown over the last 40 years to over 700 member institutes. The association has now become better known by its Japanese style nickname, Sentokyo.

Sentokyo is working to advance the quality of information services in Japan and promote mutual co-operation between special libraries.

Members of Sentokyo are able to take advantage of interlibrary loan services to use materials held at the National Diet Library, Japan, because it is a member institute.
