Who remembers this acronym? It stands for select, record, examine, develop, install and maintain, and refers to the steps in a method study investigation. Many performance improvement methodologies have a similar series of stages. I learned this one when I was younger (oh yes, much younger!). It has stood me in good stead. One of the great things about learning things thoroughly is that when under pressure subsequently, those “roots” come back to you. When I have a difficult project, I pause and go back to these first principles before deciding in which direction to move. I recommend you all to adopt a similar mantra.
