Foreign friends
What do we learn from overseas visits? Well … it depends – of course. We should learn about different behaviours and how they are influenced by different geographies, different religions and different cultures. Too often, however, we seem to learn negative – rather than neutral – things about how other cannot behave like us (and expect that they should!). Their views on business, on ethics, on productivity and performance are shaped by their backgrounds, just as ours are. Assuming “right” and “wrong” only leads to trouble: recognising difference is what matters.
