I am very pleased to introduce the joint Guest Editors for this special issue of the International Journal of Educational Management, who are Dr Howard Stevenson and Emerita Professor Angela Thody of the University of Lincoln, UK. I will not attempt to repeat their own very competent summary of the theme and papers they have recruited from Africa, USA, and the UK. A debt of gratitude is owed to them for the efforts they have put in on my behalf – it is no mean achievement to pull together work from around the world, even with internet and e-mail, to a specific deadline. From this point of view the Guest Editors have handled the collation extremely well and efficiently and our several meetings to discuss the project have invariably been in an efficient and well humoured manner. The theme of the papers is, I am sure, one that readers will readily identify with and hope that you find the issue useful.
